Gylfi Delighted With Free Kick Strike

I guess there is no surprise to learn that Gylfi Sigurdsson was a delighted man after his brilliant free kick found the back of the net this afternoon to bring the Swans back into the game against Arsenal.

Sigurdsson's free kick was the catalyst for the Swans to go on and secure the win that their overall play probably deserved on a wet and windy afternoon at the Liberty Stadium.

It was a three points that lifted the team into 5th place in the Premier League as they head into the third international break of the season with the prospect of Champions Manchester City next up in two weeks time.

November was supposed to be a tougher month than we have experienced to date but four points from six is making light work of all of that and the capture of Sigurdsson last summer is looking more and more of a bargain every game that he plays.

His second goal sits nicely with his seven assists so far this season and must make Spurs fans wonder exactly who got the best of the deal that saw him return to the Liberty this summer. They can of course wonder all they want because we clearly know the answer to that particular conundrum.

In over nine years at the Liberty there would not have been many better free kicks than the one struck today and it was no surprise to hear his after match comments after such a game

“I said to Kyle Bartley that I’d go for the top-left corner and I struck beautifully. Thankfully it went in,” beamed Sigurdsson.

“Goals change games and our fans were absolutely buzzing when that went in. And they pushed us on for the winner very soon after that. The stadium was absolutely rocking.”

“We’ve had very tough games in different ways against Everton and Arsenal recently

“We had to dig deep to get a point at Everton while we showed a lot of character to come from behind to beat Arsenal.

“We fought until the end and we got a deserved three points.

“We’re going very well at the moment. Heading into the international break with a win is a great boost for us.”
