300 Up For Ashley Williams
Saturday, 10th Jan 2015 10:58 by Planet Swans (follow us on Twitter @swansnews)

Swansea captain Ashley Williams will lead his side out at the Liberty Stadium this afternoon on a special occasion for the player who will be making his 300th appearance for the club.

It will be a long long way (in more ways than one) for the player who made his debut for the club back in 2008 in a 0-0 draw on a Tuesday night in Carlisle. And he has been close to ever present since then with this afternoon being his 270th league appearance in those 300 games.

It places Ashley right up there with our top appearance makers although he has a long way to go to match the 586 appearances made by WIlf Milne who holds the club record but Ash finds himself well within the Top 20 alongside someone else appearing today in Leon Britton.

300 appearances in less than seven years will tell its own story for me of a player who has always given everything for the shirt and has somehow managed to steer clear of long term injuries during his time at the club.

128 of his league appearances have come for us in the Premier League with him missing just 6 league games since we won promotion in 2011.

He was made team captain when Garry Monk stood down from the role and was the captain on the day when the Swans won their only trophy - the Capital One Cup at Wembley in 2012.

Not bad for a guy who cost just £400,000 - congratulations Ashley and may there be many more to come
