Gylfi's Injury Concern
Tuesday, 13th Jan 2015 06:47 by Planet Swans (follow us on Twitter @swansnews)

Swansea boss Garry Monk has revealed that Gylfi Sigurdsson is carrying an injury knock at this moment in time which is preventing him doing hardly any training as it stands.

Already without Ki Sung Yeung and soon to see Wilfried Bony depart the Liberty Stadium, you can understand Monk's reluctance to lose one of his shining lights of this season but it would explain one of the reasons why Gylfi is not playing the full 90 minutes of games at this point in time.

Sigurdsson has been a strong part of the Swans team this season since he completed his move back to South Wales back in the summer and is well on the way to one of the highest number of assists in a season in Premier League history.

Add to that a couple of spectacular free kicks and the winner at Old Trafford you know that our team is weaker without him in it and why we want to keep him as fit as possible.

“Gylfi has not been training a lot over the last couple of weeks with a bruised foot so we have managed that,” revealed Monk.

“In terms of his sharpness and fitness, he has not been at his peak but he still dug in and gave a performance against West Ham.

“He is not playing at 100 per cent right now. He is still playing very well but we have to be mindful because he has missed days of training through the busiest period of the season.

“We are looking to get him back to 100 per cent. Hopefully he can get a full week of training and we can go from there.”
