Monk Denies Move For Rhodes

Swansea manager Garry Monk has said that he will not be making a move for Blackburn's Jordan Rhodes in this transfer window.

The Swans have been linked with a move for the striker who has scored 61 goals in just 111 league starts for Blackburn in the two and a half years since he signed from Huddersfield. His record there was even stronger with 73 goals in 108 league starts being enough to encourage Blackburn to move for him following their relegation from the Premier League.

It has been a transfer window full of striker rumours for the Swans following their sale of Wilfried Bony to Manchester City for a fee that could rise as high as £28m. And with Bafetimbi Gomis making enough sounds that he wants away from the club as well, a move for Rhodes is distinctly possible for the Swans.

However, that move was ruled out by Monk who said “I've already said I don't want another striker

“I don't know where that [Rhodes] has come from; it's ridiculous. He's not been on our radar at all."

Monk watched Rhodes play his part as Blackburn put the Swans out of the FA Cup on Saturday and with Gomis comments, I would not completely agree with the statement of not wanting another striker with Monk's hand possibly about to be forced a move for Rhodes could still happen despite the denial?

At the moment we are showing just how lightweight our squad is . Had it not been for a half decent first half of the season given our current form we would be in the relegation mix . We look a very average team at present , poor in defence and creating very few chances up front . Tiendalli is no premiership player , dyer has had his day and the only person who thinks gomis is a good footballer is gomis himself. Does monk honestly think we can compete in this division without a recognised striker ? This season is in grave danger of becoming an embarrassment unless we ship out the dead wood and get some quality in . Britton, amat , dyer , Fernandez, tiendalli, all look poor at present.
