Liverpool Luck As Swans Beaten

The Swans can count themselves unlucky tonight after we were beaten by a lucky Jordan Henderson goal that left Lucasz Fabianski stranded to keep the visitors pushing on for a Champions League place.

Henderson was the man who got the final touch but it was with a huge dollop of luck as Jordi Amat's attempted clearance deflected off him and over Fabianski for the only goal in an entertaining Monday night encounter at the Liberty Stadium.

The Swans more than matched their opposition tonight and were comfortably the best team in the first half where Liverpool had to thank Mignolet for two saves to keep the score level as Gomis and then Sigurdsson both tested the keeper with good efforts that would have gone in if it were not for the keeper.

Add to that a clever corner that saw Shelvey's goal bound shot deflected wide we were definitely unlucky not to be in front at the interval as our midfield made Liverpool's look ordinary with some high up pressing and plenty of chasing the ball which saw Liverpool under pressure for large periods of the first 45 minutes.

The thing is when you come up against a quality side is you know that you will not dominate them for 90 minutes and the second half did paint a different picture with Liverpool having the lion's share of possession after the break although rarely looking like they were troubling Fab who had no real saves of note to make bar one close down at his post as Liverpool pushed forward.

From about 50 minutes only it looked like it would only need one goal to separate the two sides and the Swans were giving possession away all too often when it came but few could have predicted the stroke of luck that came with it but there were no complaints from Henderson who celebrated his strike in the same way he would have done had he found the top corner from 40 yards.

Garry Monk looked to change things introducing Montero and then Dyer but it was to little effect as Liverpool seemed to be able to grab hold of the ball and hold it at ease as the Swans tired. There was some hope in the last 10 minutes but the final ball or the first touch was not quite there and it was Liverpool that almost scored again as Sturridge's shot came back off the post to keep the score at 1-0.

This was one of those defeats that happen in this division but we can take plenty of positives from this game and more performances like this will see us comfortably pass the 47 points that has become the next target for this season.
