Swans Equal Record As Monk Praises Character

There is always a great feeling when you see your side win away from home so that feeling must double when you are the manager and you have taken your side back to 8th in the Premier League table in the process.

As the Swans close in on what may not just be a record points tally bit a highest Premier League finish there has to be a massive feeling of satisfaction inside of Garry Monk given the amount of criticism that he has come in for during parts of the season.

The Swans secured a 12th Premier League win of the season which equals the tally achieved by Brendan Rodgers team in 2011/12 and with eight games left to go in the season you would assume that it is another record about to be taken by a manager who has only been in charge for little over a year.

It took a late goal from Bafetimbi Gomis to give the Swans that 12th victory but it was equally as sweet as any other win we have achieved this season and we also can hope that it is a springboard for Gomis to go on and score a few more between now and the end of the season.

The win also takes us past the tally of 42 points achieved last season and within four points of the tally secured by the same Brendan Rodgers side referred to above

“Overall, I think we deserved it,” said Monk. “In the first half we were fantastic, created a few chances and maybe should have scored a couple.

“The second half was much more even, with both teams pushing and fighting, but we dealt with a confident Aston Villa team well today.

“It was similar to Monday night in that we were fantastic in the first half, but in the back of your mind you do wonder whether the missed chances will come back to bite you.

“But today typified the character and determination we have in that changing room.

“A lot of people might question what we have to play for, but we continue to fight and push.

“We did a lot of things right today. There were some big performances at a tough place to come. I’m very pleased.”
