Liverpool Trailing Ash?

Lazy transfer rumour mill has hit full force today with reports in the Daily Mirror suggesting that Brendan Rodgers is eyeing up a move for Swansea and Wales captain Ashley Williams.

I think it is fair to say that this is not a rumour that has any more substance other than Liverpool are - once again - shelling out a small fortune this summer in a desperate bid to get them back into the Champions League places.

Don't get me wrong, Ash would walk into the Liverpool team instantly (to be fair I'm not sure there is a Premier League team he wouldn't walk into) but he has had the opportunities to leave before now and hasn't so there is no chance that he would leave (in my view) even if he did have a genuine interest from Liverpool to follow through.

Next season is potentially the most important for Williams who has the opportunity to become the first Wales captain since 1958 to lead his nation to a major international championship finals. It is therefore essential that Ash has regular first team football and whilst he may get it elsewhere I just cannot for the life of me see him wanting to jeopardise anything at this point in time.

I also don't believe that there is an interest from Liverpool if I was to be honest. There has been little noise from Liverpool at all over the past two summers when they wanted central defenders and it is only really Arsenal that showed an interest last time around.

This to me is a 'former manager with money linked with talent at former club' and based on the fact that Southampton clearly don't have any more players Brendan could probably want it is - for me - a piece of lazy journalism with no truth in at all

Call me cynical...
