Rory Donnelly, released by Swansea at the end of last season, has joined Gillingham it has been confirmed this afternoon.

The Gills - managed by former Tottenham defender Justin Edinburgh - have snapped up the striker on a two year deal ahead of the new campaign.

Donnelly's time in South Wales was short lived in his three and a bit year stay here where he made just two starts - at Crawley in the Capital One Cup and almost a year later against Ploesti in the Europa League.

He was sent out on loan last season to Tranmere after a very ill fated loan spell at Coventry the season before which was ended almost as quickly as it began

On capturing his signature Justin Edinburgh said: “Rory is a young striker who I’ve had my eye on for a while.

“His time at Tranmere on loan will have done him a lot of good and I believe we have pulled off a very strong signing.

"I have no doubt he will be of huge benefit to our squad and we now have four very different striking options which I think is key going into the new season.”
