Fulton - I May Need To Go Out On Loan

Jay Fulton is for me a player who has a good future ahead of him but he admits that he may need to go out on loan this season as he needs first team football to develop his career the way that he wants to.

As it stands at the moment you can see that game time for Fulton (and possibly Matt Grimes as well) would be limited with the midfield players ahead of him including Ki Sung-Yeung, Jonjo Shelvey and Jack Cork so it is understandable to know why the player could be considering a short term move elsewhere to secure some first team football.

We know that he is highly rated by manager Garry Monk so there is no chance of a permanent move being arranged at any point in the immediate future and - as we saw on a few occasions last season - Fulton is in the mind of the manager when it comes to picking his matchday squad.

Fulton says he did consider a loan move last season but with Ki on a long term absence due to international duty he stayed to fight for his place and he got a start at Southampton when the Swans won 1-0.

"I did have a look at going on loan last season with the way things were going, but while Ki was away with South Korea in January I was needed and I was on the bench a few times," he said.

"So we will see what happens, but the first thing is to get through pre-season here and then see where we are at.

"I had a bad injury at the start of the season that set me back.

"If you had said I would have played this many games when I signed I would have been happy.

But once you play you want more and I am looking to next season.

"You have to have that mentality because a lot of these boys in midfield are proven players, international players.

Learning off them is great, it makes you a better player.

"I am not afraid of reputations, I am a team-mate for those guys and I cannot be afraid of them.

"I need as many games as possible. I had five appearances last year so I need double figures next season."
