If there was a list of players that we had to hold on this summer then the name of Lukasz Fabianski would be near the top of that list following his brilliant first season in South Wales last term

We accumulated fifty-six points and finished eighth in the division as we broke all the previous records at the club and almost gained a return to Europe again through our league position.

But it would have been very difficult to get anywhere in the league without the backup of a great defensive line of which Lukasz became part of 12 months ago.

Having been released by Arsenal he signed for the Swans on a free transfer to replace Tottenham bound Michel Vorm and kept thirteen clean sheets in the Premier League amongst a host of superb saves that made him one of the best goalkeepers in the division.

His display in our win at the Emirates summed up much of what is good about Fabianski and considering we got him on a free transfer then its says much about our ability to spot a quality player and persuade them to join us here in Swansea.

It was only natural though that there would be transfer interest in the big Pole but it is clearly not something that worries him as he told the website Transfer markt "I came to Swansea to claim a number one position at a Premier League club and to fight for the number one in the National team.

"Both things worked out well and I am thankful to Swansea for giving me the chance of showing my potential. I consider rumours of other clubs being interested in me as recognition for my performance, but I won't let me get distracted from such rumours."

Fabianski was also full of praise for his manager Garry Monk who led the Swans to their record breaking season in his first full term as a manager "Garry is a fantastic manager with a tremendous dedication to his job. He has a huge tactical knowledge of the game.

"I assume it was a challenge for him as well, transforming from a player to a manager. He has the right balance of being accessible for the players and keeping the professional distance that each manager needs"

But as we know money has a funny way in changing people behaviour and destinies! I believe though only guarantees from a top club like Swansea :) would take him away from the club. Without doubt we are delighted he is a Swansea player and further hope it remains that way. However, don't be surprise if something does happen because it's a funny old world we live in!
