Monk Happy With Reading Workout

Garry Monk was happy with the workout that his side received in the 1-1 draw with Reading, a result that was secured thanks to Kyle Bartley's second half tap in for the Swans.

Monk was speaking after the game at Adams Park and ahead of the Swans second friendly in two days as they prepared to face Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

With just two weeks left until the new season the Swans are unbeaten in three pre-season games so far which has got to be pleasing for a boss who is looking to try and secure a better finish for his side next time around after the record breaking exploits of last season.

He said after the game “It was a good workout for us

“Reading are a good team, and we’ve had some good pre-season games with them over the past few years.

“The minutes on the pitch is the most important thing for the players. Quite a few of the players got 90 minutes tonight, so it was a good workout.

“We’ve been working in a really good way during pre-season. Of course you’d like to win games, but it’s more about the fitness side of it and getting match sharpness.

We had a lot of the ball tonight, which was good, and could have nicked it at the end, but it wasn’t about the result.

As I said, it’s about the players’ fitness, and I think we’ll get even sharper in the next two weeks ahead of the new season.”
