Swans Dismiss Links With Tottenham And Sunderland Strikers

Swansea City have dismissed links suggesting that they may make a move for Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor or Sunderland's Steven Fletcher as reported in the weekend papers.

The weekend news suggested that the Swans had lined up Adebayor as a possible replacement for Bafetimbi Gomis as there has been speculation linking him with a move away from the Swans.

There genuinely would have been no surprise had there been something in the story as the Swans are known for preparing for eventualities and I suspect that somewhere deep in the offices of the Liberty Stadium there is a piece of paper that has the name of the players they would like to replace Gomis should be move on.

But it does seem that Adebayor will not be one of them with the Swans dismissing a move for the player who Spurs are keen to get off their wage bill with it being suggested that they could let him go for as little as £5m.

The Northern Echo reported yesterday that Sunderland would be prepared to consider selling Fletcher to the Swans should there be any truth in the interest and even went as far to suggest that the Black Cats were ready for a bid before the week was out.

But the Evening Post has reported that a move for either striker will not be happening and particularly moreso on the back last week of Garry Monk suggesting that Gomis will not be going anywhere.

This is the second successive transfer window that Gomis has been linked heavily with a move away from the club and it would be more preferable if - like the last one - he just got on with the job of scoring goals for the Swans and removed himself from the speculation.
