Willams And Taylor In Welsh Squad

There was no surprise really to see the names of Ashley Williams and Neil Taylor in the Welsh squad announced by manager Chris Coleman today ahead of the qualifying double header that could create history for his team

If Wales beat Cyprus in Nicosia on September 3 and then Israel in Cardiff on September 6th then they will qualify for a major finals for the first time since 1958.

It would cap a brilliant turnaround for Wales who slid down the World rankings in previous years but now find themselves 9th in the World and on the verge of something very special

Williams will of course wear the captain's armband in the two games whilst it looks like Taylor will need to fight it out with Ben Davies for a slot although in theory both could play with one accommodated at right back.

Former Swans Jazz Richards, Shaun MacDonald and David Cotterill are also in the side but Joe Allen misses out through injury

Goalkeepers: Wayne Hennessey (Crystal Palace), Danny Ward (Liverpool, on loan with Aberdeen), Owain Fon Williams (Inverness Caledonian Thistle); Defenders: Ashley Williams (Swansea City), James Chester (Hull City), James Collins (West Ham United), Ben Davies (Tottenham Hotspur), Chris Gunter (Reading), Neil Taylor (Swansea City), Adam Henley (Blackburn Rovers), Ashley Richards (Fulham); Midfielders: Andy King (Leicester City), Joe Ledley (Crystal Palace), Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal), Jordan Williams (Liverpool, on loan with Swindon Town), David Edwards (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Shaun MacDonald (AFC Bournemouth); Forwards: Gareth Bale (Real Madrid), Hal Robson-Kanu (Reading), Sam Vokes (Burnley), Simon Church (MK Dons), David Cotterill (Birmingham City), Tom Lawrence (Leicester City, on loan with Blackburn Rovers).
