Shelvey Wants To Cement Place In England Squad

Jonjo Shelvey is away to join up with England and he wants to make his position in that squad more permanent with a place in Roy Hodgson's squad for the European Championship finals up for grabs.

Shelvey earned his place in the England squad on the back of some to quality performances back at the end of last season and at the beginning of this.

He will be hoping to add to the one cap that he won against San Marino back in 2012 and, given his current form, we have to believe that he is likely to start for England later this week as they go in search of the points that will secure their places in France next summer.

Shelvey looked at one point at the start of the year as if his Swansea career was coming to an end let alone his England one but a change in the way he approaches things and a new determination and the money Swansea paid Liverpool for him two years ago is looking a steal for one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.

And now he has his England chance he wants to make it a permanent one.

"I don't want to just go there (with England) and not play," said Shelvey.

"I want to get the chance to play a game.

"If I get the chance I know I can show everyone what I am capable of because I've started this season well.

"But there's still a lot more to come and I will keep working hard and try to kick on.

"Roy Hodgson is a tremendous manager and I'm sure if you are doing the business on the pitch then he can't ignore you forever," Shelvey said.

"I feel I have warranted a place since the back end of last year. But it wasn't meant to be. Hopefully I can kick on now and really cement my place in the squad."
