Cork Delight For Shelvey Over England Call

If there is anyone at Swansea that knows Jonjo Shelvey well then it would be any of his midfield partners and one day perhaps Jack Cork and Jonjo Shelvey will form the heart of the England midfield.

It may well be just a coincidence but the form of Shelvey has improved since Jack Cork arrived and that seemed to be the missing part of a jigsaw that has looked complete ever since.

Shelvey was much criticised by Garry Monk around the turn of the year and there were many at that point in time that didn't expect him to be here at this point in time. The Swans signed Cork from Southampton and it all changed as Shelvey knuckled down and did what was asked of him where Cork has appeared in every Premier League game since - only failing to start at Chelsea on the opening day of the season.

Shelvey's form has been rewarded this week with a call up into the national squad to take on San Marino and Switzerland and Cork should be part of that squad as well. While he is playing down those chances there are few midfielders that have the calmness and composure of Cork on the ball and I firmly believe it is just a matter of time until he gets that call

I’m not really looking at it at the moment. Maybe at some point in the future,” said Cork.

“Playing every week is good for me. I’ve got no injuries and I want to help this club have another good season."

He is delighted though for his midfield colleague on his own call up “He’s so good to play with, especially in the middle. I know I can just give him the ball and he’ll do something creative with it

“I’m really pleased for him so I hope he does well and takes his chance to impress.

“He’s got that skill and that flair. He’s got that hard work and drive, and he’s only 23.

“I thought he was a lot older because he’s been around for ages, but to be called up at 23 is a massive achievement.

“It’s good that people are looking at us and can pick England internationals from us.”
