No Old Pals Act For Monk

Garry Monk will face Norwich City today knowing that in the opposition dug out is an old friend of his in Alex Neil but he will not be looking to do his friend any favours with both managers in search of the three points.

Monk and Neil were former team mates at Barnsley and have kept in touch since then but as they prepare to match up for the first time as managers there will be no hint of sentiment from the Swans boss as he looks to secure a second successive away win for the Swans.

As the season goes into it's third international break after this weekend of fixtures, both managers will be keen to take the three points to extend the gap between them and the teams below.

Norwich are without a win since September whilst the Swans have only won once since August which tells you much about the direction both teams have headed but both have the chance to ease the pressure this afternoon.

Neil led Norwich back into the Premier League via the play offs last season but has seen his side struggle a little this season and it is starting to look like a long season for them already as they battle to retain the position that many have said is the most important season to do so.

Monk though wishes well for his former team mate but after today of course

“I think it is good for the league to see teams trusting young managers to prove they can do well,” he said.

“I know Alex well, we have kept in touch since our Barnsley days and I always expected him to do a good job, even though a few people were surprised he went to Norwich.

“He was a top professional as a player and has carried that into management.

"He was in a similar position to myself and it is no surprise to me how well he has done, although I hope he will not be too happy on Saturday.”
