Monk And Swansea Part Company

The Swans have confirmed that they have parted company with Garry Monk following Saturday's 3-0 defeat by Leicester at the Liberty which bought to an end a 21 month tenure as manager of the club.

It also brings to an end an eleven-year association with the club that started back in 2004 and saw Monk lead the Swans on the pitch to three promotions taking them right from the bottom division to the Premier League.

Monk played over 250 games for the Swans in that period and captained the team in all four divisions and we should always be grateful for the massive part that he played in our rise through the divisions.

He was given the management job after the sacking of Michael Laudrup in February last year firstly on a temporary basis and then on a permanent basis at the end of the season.

Last term he led the Swans to a record breaking 8th placed finish with 56 points and he secured league doubles over Arsenal and Manchester United during that period as well.

We started this season on fire with eight points from the first four games that started premature talk of Champions League football but since the end of August then things have turned sour and at the end a run of one win in twelve games was clearly not enough for the board and they have acted today to end his tenure as manager.

I would personally like to thank Garry for everything that he has done for the club and it is gutting to realise that it has ended the way that it has but I hope that Swans fans everywhere wish him the very best for the future and I am certain this is not the last that we have heard of Garry Monk.
