Curtis Reveals Monk Conversation

Alan Curtis led the Swans at Manchester City following the sacking of Garry Monk in midweek but he revealed that the former manager did call him yesterday morning to wish him well for the game.

The Swans were desperately unlucky not to get a result at the Etihad Stadium, losing only to Yaya Toure's lucky injury time winner but it was a performance that will bode well for the future and sends everyone into next Sunday's game with renewed confidence.

Curtis also revealed that he got a call from Brendan Rodgers, Michael Laudrup and Kristian O'Leary in the build up to the game as he takes charge of the side whilst the club undertake their hunt for Monk's permanent successor.

"I spoke to Garry this morning and Kris O’Leary and Michael Laudrup and Brendan Rodgers. Garry made sure his best wishes were past to the players. He would have been delighted if we’d got something from the game.

"It is still very much Gary’s team. We’ve lost mangers in the past, but it seemed a lot more personal this time,. He had a long association with the club as a player and manager.

"Everybody was sad and determined to try to get a result for Garry today. We needed to show something for the manager. We just had a chat, he asked if I was enjoying managerial life. I told him I was grey already and did not want to lose my hair as well. It’s been a funny old week. A lot of clubs have them."
