Wales Get Euros Campaign Underway
Saturday, 11th Jun 2016 06:32 by Planet Swans (follow us on Twitter @swansnews)

Wales will finally get a major finals underway this evening when they take one Slovakia in Bordeaux in the opening game of their Euro 2016 campaign.

Backed by thousands of Welsh fans - many of them from Swansea - will be in France when we enter the tournament that started yesterday evening with the host nation securing a late winner thanks to a Dimitri Payet goal.

Whilst most of the discussion since the draw was made has been around the clash with England in Lens next Thursday on this occasion it is down to the eleven players that Chris Coleman will select for this historic occasion.

It has been 58 years since Wales last qualified for a major tournament and all those years of heartache will finally be behind us this evening with a win almost certainly likely to take us through the group stage and into the last 16 of the tournament.

It is an especially proud moment for Swans fans who will see Wales led out at the game by our captain Ashley Williams but for the next few weeks all football fans in Wales - no matter which team they support - will continue the Together Stronger campaign that saw us do so well in the qualifying group to get us to this stage in the first place.

For this Jack it is with envy that I look on at the people in France enjoying the occasion but that matters not as - with many watching at home - I will be glued to the television screens this evening knowing that Wales could well end the evening topping the group and on their way to qualification for the next stage again.

Planet Swans will be with Wales all the way through the tournament and we will bring you over the next few weeks the latest news and views from the Welsh camp as well as the latest views on Swansea City as we continue our build up to our sixth Premier League season.

But for now all focus today turns to France and Chris Coleman's team - come on Wales!!
