McBurnie Scores Twice As Swans Reach Quarter Final
Tuesday, 10th Jan 2017 22:14 by Planet Swans (follow us on Twitter @swansnews)

The Swans under-21s reached the quarter finals of the Checkatrade trophy thanks to two more goals from Ollie McBurnie which was enough to take us past Wolves' Under-23 team and take one step closer to the final at Wembley.

Not content with being so far clear at the top of our division, it now looks like the team is hell bent on reaching the final of a competition that we have already won twice - against Huddersfield in 1994 and Carlisle in 2006.

The young Swans had trailed to an early Christian Herc goal at the Liberty Stadium, but McBurnie levelled seconds after the break with a close-range finish before heading home the winner with just four minutes remaining.

New head coach Paul Clement was watching on from the stands and will have had some food for thought thanks to the performances of the youngsters, a few of whom are on the verge of the first team thanks to an impressive season for Cameron Toshack and Gary Richards' team.

The Swans are now the last remaining Under-21 team in the tournament and will be joined in the quarter finals by Wycombe, Yeovil, Coventry, Luton, Mansfield, Oxford and either Cheltenham or Bradford.

Could we be heading for another Swansea v Bradford Wembley date?
