Were We In For Defender?
Wednesday, 11th Jan 2017 07:14 by Planet Swans (follow us on Twitter @swansnews)

Today's reports suggest that us and Manchester City were both enquiring after Bayern Munich defender Holger Badstuber who yesterday joined Schalke on loan until the end of the season.

Sportskeeda is reporting that new Swans head coach Paul Clement was keen to return to his former club and secure the services of Badstuber on loan as he bids to strengthen a defence that has shipped more goals in the Premier League this season than any other side.

The report also says that Pep Guardiola was another one looking to raid his former club with a move for Badstuber but he was also snubbed in favour of the move which was confirmed on Tuesday.

The defender spoke on completion of the move saying I’m thankful that FC Bayern have complied with my request. I’d like to get some much-needed match practice at Schalke and I’m looking forward to my time in Gelsenkirchen.”

It was a bold move by Swansea to try and secure the services of the defender - whether we stood a realistic chance remains to be seen but certainly an indication that we are looking at many options in the January window which can only be a good thing and if the quality of someone like Badstuber is anything to go by then it surely has to be a good sign?

This is, of course, assuming the reports are true!
