Swansea City 1-0 Brentford
Sunday, 26th Jul 2020 21:00

The Swans take a narrow one-nil win into the second leg of the Championship play-off semi-final after Andre Ayew scored, atoning for an earlier penalty miss.

Brentford perhaps had the majority of the first half but was mostly both teams finding each other out.

In the 63rd minute, Pontus Jansson brought down Rhian Brewster in the box but Ayew had his penalty saved by Brentford keeper David Reya.

Soon after, Rico Henry was given a straight red for a sliding tackle on Connor Roberts and Swansea had the advantage for the final 25 minutes and had the bulk of the chances and play.

Ayew made amends in the 81st minute with a scorching shot into the top corner which gives the Swans a slight advantage going to Griffin Park on Wednesday.

Speaking after the match to Sky Sports, Ayew said: "We need to get into the final first, I am only focused on that.

"It's good to come out here and get the goal but it is just the first half, the second half is in three days so we need to get ready for that.

"This club means a lot to me, they gave me the chance to play in the Premier League and we still have a great bond."
