Swansea City’s comedy of errors continue (2)
Wednesday, 17th Aug 2022 10:42 by Keith Haynes : Swans Indie Editorial

Swansea City threw away the extra points yet again at the swansea.com last night and it seems lessons, despite then being talked about for over a year are not being learned. It was a display of dominance in the first half that melted away in to a ridiculous performance that lacked any bite in the second half. And that’s being mellow, trust me it is, especially for what’s about to come.

The loss of Joel Latibeaudiere in the first half wasn’t anything to do with how awful this performance was unless of course you look at his replacement in Matthew Sorinola. If there has ever been a limited and weaker right sided player at this club in recent years I’m yet to see him. And he isn’t the only anomaly from this gutless performance from a Swansea team that never ever seems to learn. Matthew Grimes is allegedly the captain of this team, and never have the swans had such a quieter mouse like leader on any football pitch in my memory. When he was required to lead and step up in a game that required leaders he was completely absent.

Maybe he had a letter from his mum ?

Swansea City cannot start any game with an eleven who can last ninety minutes, that’s players who can see out a game with belief and commitment. As soon as Millwall started kicking lumps out of Ryan Manning, Harry Darling and anyone else they could get away with the game was only heading in one direction. From that point onwards the players in our clubs shirt cowered away like scared children. A two goal lead taken over twenty minutes of complete football was wiped away by players in a second half performance who shouldn’t even bother picking up their salaries this week. There are Swansea fans out their on a minimum income who support this team, some I personally know who forego the very basics in life so they can watch their football team. Mustering together enough money so they can buy food for the way home after a game at Blackpool or paying out extortionate amounts to travel by train to Oxford to watch a pathetic and gutless performance just isn’t good enough.

It shows a complete lack of respect.

Whatever Russell Martin says post match is wasted on most Swansea City followers. Whatever it is it’s been heard so many times before. There is no excuse for this type of performance time and time again from a team of so called professional footballers who wear our clubs shirt. In over a year this website has totally supported what Russell Martin wants, we have got behind every single ( and at some times ridiculous) idea he has come up with, and of course the excuses when invariably they don’t work.

Nathan Wood doesn’t play for Middlesbrough for a reason, Sorinola doesn’t play for his parent club for a reason, Joel Latibeaudiere the square peg can’t do what Martin wants on the right hand side of the pitch for a reason. Let’s go on, Joe Allen can’t last ninety minutes for a reason, and you can add Olivier Ntcham to that as well. Joel Piroe has his head in the clouds for a reason and Jay Fulton most certainly doesn’t play for any other club even in league one for a reason. All of these so called professional footballers, and there are numerous others displayed a weakness no supporter of any football club wants to see. I can see no justification for the weak willed and cowering performance in the second half against Millwall.

The lack of leadership is sickening, both on and off the pitch. Sadly, and yes it is sadly Russell Martin will most certainly not last this season if the hope he gives then takes away continues this year. The only thing that may save him is the fact the swans can’t afford to sack him. Nobody wants that, least of all me, but this regurgitation of performances this season are no better than the games thrown away last year, and cannot continue.

I watched a spineless Swansea side for the last sixty minutes of this game, no effort, no ambition and yes Mr Grimes no leadership whatsoever. I’ve never in my Swansea supporting life written such a damning account of a Swansea side since the days of Appleton, Nicholas and Cullis. At least then they had players who were literally hopeless in their defence. In certain cases anyway. All any swans fan wants to see is proper effort when there’s a few minutes to go and some degree of awareness and mental agility to take ownership of a situation. Forty or fifty grand a month surely buys that ?

If that god awful draw isn’t the catalyst for Russell Martin to grab this squad by the scruff of the neck and turn this absolute mess around then unfortunately his days are numbered. I’ve seen it many times before, some premier league Swansea fans may have not, but I have. This is now his last real opportunity to prove to everyone he knows not only what he can do, but he knows exactly how to deliver it. It has after all been thirteen months of grace.

Swansea City fans who scrape together their money to watch this continual debacle in their clubs shirt deserve at least that. On a Tuesday night swans fans travelled from all over the UK to watch that performance, when let’s be honest they could have robbed a signal from some dodgy stream in Russia. Never write a report in anger they say, well, now I have, and although not everyone will agree, I couldn’t care either. I’ll show as much compassion for those who disagree as those so called professional footballers against Millwall. Once again they made a laughing stock out of Swansea City when all they had to do was fight and show some moral fibre.

For a team to have one shot at goal and score twice is mad enough. But then to score two goals and not one of them from their own team is mind boggling. And I’ll leave you with this, had that game gone on for another two minutes the swans would have lost that game because they were gutless, hopeless and totally devoid of any responsibility you would associate with an apparent professional person.

And as I said, personally, I couldn’t care if anyone disagrees, I put my name to everything I write, every time, and every day. Thanks for reading. Luton on Saturday it is then. By then I could be a bit cooler. But it does get hot sometimes, and things have to be said. And names have to be put to them.
