Morgan Whittaker transfer in jeopardy ? Kevin Nisbet enters the frame
Monday, 30th Jan 2023 10:54 by Keith Haynes

Morgan Whittaker has competition for the ‘number nine’ jersey at Rangers now that Kevin Nisbet has turned down Millwall in a two million pound plus move to London. There is a general feeling that the twenty five year old is a better proposition and clearly more proven in the Scottish Premier League with almost a goal in two games ratio for Hibernian.

Michael Beale the Gers boss has already commented on his wishes this transfer window. He has outlined the need for four new faces in to the club. And then made yet another drop down comment on Saturday. "There's loads of stuff going on in the background. There are one or two names in the media and you have all run away with those a little bit because you are getting snippets from the other club. There's a lot of that that's not right. There's more wrong in that speculation than there is right”

A clear swipe at Swansea City there.

With Kevin Nisbet seemingly edging Morgan in to second place on the rumour front a huge question mark has to be placed over recent suggestions that Morgan Whittaker has agreed personal terms at Ibrox. We have been told that is not only simply untrue it falls outside of the general protocols of football transfer dealings. Yes, it goes on, but Morgan will only have his agent to thank if this deal doesn’t occur for him. The brinkmanship has been laughable at times. And that personal terms story can only come from Morgan’s representatives, nowhere else.

Kevin Nisbet, the real problem for Morgan Whittaker

Nisbet found himself on the bench this weekend as Hibs thrashed Aberdeen 6-0 leading to the Dons boss Jimmy Goodwin losing his job. Nisbet’s representatives made a statement just before the game in relation to him turning down Millwall when all seemed done and dusted. A statement from Quanic Sports read.“Kevin has taken time to consider this opportunity but remains unsure about making the move at this time. He’s happy to focus on Hibs for the time being.” For the time being indeed, the wheels of the transfer window move slowly and at times, covertly as well.

Whether Nisbet would be a popular move time will only tell, he was said to be open about his love of Celtic. That already hasn’t gone down well in certain parts of Glasgow now he is linked with a possible move. However, our research shows him of interest to Rangers over the last four years or so. In 2019 whilst at Dunfermline he said. "Rangers is a massive club so I want to keep doing what I'm doing. From there we'll see what happens, really. I don't support either of the big two but I've got to think about the rest of my career. Right now at Dunfermline it's perfect, it's where I want to be. We've got a good group of players." Both players are valued at the same price give or take. Two and a half million would seal it, and if Rangers reach that high it’s then a straight forward choice between the two players.

Michael Beale is currently not as positive about his transfer wishes this January. “I think there will be a couple of things in the next forty eight hours, can I guarantee there will be new arrivals ? No. Are we going to try our best ? Definitely." That tells us that if the name Kevin Nisbet pops up again today or tomorrow then Morgan Whittaker had better get his head down and earn his corn. Because in lieu of nobody else remotely interested in his services he just has the one option. Start playing for the club that pays you every week. And get on with it.
