Swansea City & Preston fined for ‘Provocative & Violent behaviour’

Swansea City have been fined £15,000 for their part in a physical exchange between players and non playing staff during the recent game between the clubs at the Swansea.Com stadium.

Although the Swans put forward mitigation they were still hit with a pretty big fine. Preston’s fine centred mainly around manager Ryan Lowe who grappled with Swans player Joe Allen who had already been substituted. Allen wasn’t fined but his three game ban was endorsed. The Swans won the game 4-2.

An FA Spokesperson statement read: "Swansea City AFC and Preston North End FC have been fined £15,000 and £10,000 respectively following a mass confrontation that occurred during their EFL Championship fixture on Wednesday 19th April. Both clubs admitted they failed to ensure that their players and/or bench occupants conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative and/or violent behaviour in the 89th minute. Preston North End FC manager Ryan Lowe has also been suspended from the touchline for three matches and fined £10,000, whilst sports therapist Colin Ashcroft has been given a one match ground ban and £250 fine. Both admitted that their behaviour in the 89th minute of the same fixture was improper and/or violent. An independent Regulatory Commission imposed the sanctions during a subsequent hearing.”

Bambo Diaby was also previously given a retrospective four-match ban following the game, effectively receiving a sending off for an incident the referees on the night did not see — he has so far missed games against Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield United, and will miss Monday’s game against Sunderland and the opening game of next season.

Overall the Swans have had a decent season disciplinary wise bar the bust up at Luton Town a few months back when Russell Martin was sent off. On the pitch has seen a relatively low yellow and red card count. The Swans play their final game of the season at the Swansea.Com stadium on Monday afternoon with a 3pm kick off. The game will be televised on Sky Sports Arena LIVE. Post match the squad and playing staff will thank the supporters in the usual end of season gathering with families on the pitch.
