Going in to tomorrows final league game of the season Swansea City top the Championship disciplinary charts with 108 yellow cards and 3 reds. That’s surprising because when we had a weekend video chat on Friday morning our general consensus was that the Swans were most certainly one of the better sides regards discipline this season.

It really did come as a surprise.

It was a double take indeed when we received the news that Swansea City were out in front and looking like they will remain at the top of this particular championship table. Not the one we all hoped for. The stats from top football app ‘FotMob’ obviously don’t reference every card and why, but they do show a disparity between top and bottom. See the top ten below.

Coincidentally tomorrow afternoons visitors to the Swansea.Com stadium, West Bromwich Albion sit at the bottom of this ‘table of shame’ as some have put it. The Baggies have 73 yellow cards and one red. Our nearest and dearest Cardiff City sit in 21st place in the FotMob ratings with 80 yellows and 5 reds. Maybe transfer market have a slightly better handle on this league table which after all is a fair play table for this season. The fairest side are top.

The figures which we are sure you have noticed are slightly different, as are some league placings, but the stats are compiled pretty much the same. Either way the Swans are either top or bottom of the FairPlay table. That even impacts on tomorrow afternoons game with Joe Allen sitting out his last game of suspension for being sent off against Preston North End. Harsh some would say as he was already on the sideline having already been substituted and was clearly assaulted by Preston manager Ryan Lowe who was fined £10,000 on Friday.

Blackpool you will see have 9 reds but sit only in 21st in the transfer market table due to receiving only 73 yellows to date. But 9 reds is a lot of sendings off. Overall, and to us it’s Millwall in 2nd spot who seem to be the fairest side this championship season. Only 79 yellows and nothing more. Maybe that New Den atmosphere does influence referees after all ?

Swansea City v West Bromwich Albion kicks off at 3pm tomorrow afternoon and will be screened LIVE by Sky Sports Arena from 2.45pm. They obviously sense the Baggies have a chance of those play offs. Swansea City fell short last week drawing away at Hull 1-1. With only pride to play for we hope the shackles are off and the season ends on a high and extends Russell Martin’s unbeaten run to nine.
