Did Russell Martin actually fly out to Washington DC ? What the hell is going on ?
Friday, 19th May 2023 12:52 by @Cornish67David

Rumours are now circulating that Russell Martin, the ‘current’ Swansea City head coach didn’t travel to a pre arranged meeting in the states this week. We know he stalled on going, but that information was only for one day. The fact that he is now rumoured not to have gone at all is not looking good for his future at the Swans.

There now can only be two reasons if Martin didn’t travel.

The first is he has decided to take the offer of a job elsewhere and flying all that way for a meeting on his Swansea future was pointless. It has to be said he is linked to the new manager role at Southampton, but Tony Mowbray is also in the running. With that information solid with regards to Martin being wanted by Southampton it could be now he wants to speak with them first. That won’t please Swansea fans, and not because some followers of the club don’t rate him either. It just signifies the turbulence ( scuse the pun );behind the scenes. With new Chairman Andrew Coleman in total radio silence since his Pettyesque tweet last Sunday week, and now this latest speculation things we could say aren’t going as planned.

Possibly.

The second point is also plausible, but it is pure speculation. Russell Martin didn’t feel a trip to the states was necessary, and by way of the many technical options of talking these days he has done his bidding that way. The relationship between him and the American majority owners has been described as ‘exceptionally strained’ since the season ended. Matt Gill and Russell Martin were most certainly sighted by numerous people yesterday in certain parts of the Swansea area. However, you would have thought with todays technology a photograph may well have been snapped.

To state the talks didn’t go well if that’s the case is also pure speculation, as the club haven’t said anything on its immediate plans and future whatsoever. So, we’re there any talks at all ? Without a statement or anything at all it keeps the rumour mill turning and Swansea City fans far from happy regards this situation. Swansea City FC and their Chairman who sent his blindside tweet ten days ago need to speak up and settle the supporters anger at this latest information.

Again, as we said when Coleman sent his tweet on the official Swansea City account, it’s unprofessional, totally unacceptable and most certainly not the way to endear anyone to their fare paying passengers.
