The next Swansea City manager is ?
Tuesday, 23rd May 2023 19:43 by Liam Walters (18)

The list for Swansea City’s next manager is extensive, and as lengthy a pick sheet you will ever see. We have looked at the list and if the new Swans manager is on it we would be extremely surprised. We think that the next manager won’t be as leftfield as Graham Potter, Steve Cooper or Russell Martin.

Here are the first choices.

What are your thoughts ?

Genuinely, despite reports we can’t see Nathan Jones in the frame even though Paul Watson has now agreed a move in ‘principle’ to come to the Swans as ‘ Head Of Football Operations’ Steven Schumacher we can understand, and his recent success at Plymouth puts him in the frame. Question is, why would he leave Argyle for Swansea ? If very recent speculation is right there will be money available to a manager like him. In fact more than some would think. The Swans have had talks with the Plymouth boss (below) but only regards players, at no point has he been spoken to about a position at Swansea.

We will write off Steve Cotterill, although anyone who knows this websites links will also know that for us to state he would ‘love the job’ is very accurate. However, we can’t see it happening. Ryan Mason would worry us as he has very little managerial experience and at thirty one is still in a place where he would expect funds far behind that available at Swansea. It will be difficult for him to get used to that coming from an environment where cash is almost an expectation than a hope.

Luke Williams is an interesting inclusion. He left Swansea in February 2022 stating he wanted to be closer to his family. We never really bought in to that as he is now at Notts County. He has had a magnificent season taking County back to the football league. If he did come to Swansea then the current regime at the Swansea.com is the one which appointed him when Russell Martin first came to the club. They will know Luke’s reasonings for leaving far better than any speculation at the time or after. Enzo Maresca Is an odd suggestion, he was manager of Manchester City U23 side and Parma boss. The Italian is back at Manchester City and we understand from his time as a manager at Parma he is now very cautious as to his next move, and turned down Southampton last week before Russell Martin became their target.

We have already discussed Kevin Muscat here –> The nastiest man in football ?

Wayne Rooney ( below ) is possibly more of a decent bet than most. He is known to the majority shareholders at Swansea as they also hold control at DC United. If he decides his time is done in the USA then it’s an obvious move for him. However, is he really the right man to manage in the championship? History says no.

On the list below is Steven Gerrard, surely not ? Even by Swansea City expectations he surely wouldn’t feature as manager for the club ? This time around the majority ownership have high expectations and then will work from there, but Gerrard is more of a profile appointment, not a man who can get the Swans up.

That’s the list as it stands today folks, for us not one of them will feature as the new manager, maybe Schumacher is the exception. So, what do you think, what’s your favourite choice ?
