Wednesday, 24th May 2023 10:59 by Swansea Independent Staff

Over the last seven days or so we have reported on the departure of Russell Martin from Swansea City. Sometimes a lot of information is too much to swallow all at once, so we have a review of the storylines featured to date. It seems a week is indeed a long time in football.

First off the rumour mill was chatting away that the Southampton links were solid and with foundation, we had a few calls with people we trust, then this happened.

No time to fly –> Russell Martin change of heart?

Then with the information we brought to you earlier in the week regards Southampton, it is revealed by a very good source of the website that Southampton had not yet approached the Swans

No approach as yet –> The Saints are Coming !

Full steam ahead now as Jake Silverstein ( Majority ownership director ) posts a bizarre attack on Russell Martin !

Relationship fails –> Silverstein attacks Martin

The most in-depth and reality focussed article to date appeared on Sunday morning. It received well over twenty five thousand views internally and externally.

1-0 to the USA –> Owners always win

Then Corny stepped in to the breach with a high powered review on where he believes the Swans will be if Southampton come knocking for Swansea players. A handful of the ‘Twitter thought challenged’ didn’t get it, but then that’s never a surprise.

You will pay top dollar –> Top players at a top price

Knowing that if Martin leaves then staff go with him the Swans were prepared to negotiate hard as we reported discussions had started.

Double your money Swans –> Swans to talk compo at last

However with people departing their roles at Southampton and turmoil on the south coast - finding someone to deal with became harder. The Swans were holding out for eight hundred thousand.

Not a penny less ? –> Scrapping for everything

In amongst our news report and context driven features you will also see references to a young player coming in from Jersey who could set the football world alight in years to come. Plus the Nathan Jones rumour given some clarification. And of course not least the contenders for the new Swansea manager hot seat analysed. The Michu interview was an absolute gem.

We strive to give our opinion on the news and assess where Swansea City as a club are at day to day. Some find it all a bit overwhelming, truth is the level of analysis we do has always been aimed at the more pragmatic reader who can digest the facts and assess for themselves their opinion. There will always be a handful of social media types ready to make erratic statements as a result. But that’s always been the case. We will continue to write Swansea City stories for Swansea City fans, and of course anyone else who cares to drop in.

Onwards.
