Swansea City : Where are the Swans today on all their player business ?
Thursday, 16th May 2024 14:03 by Keith Haynes

Bar the Macaulay Langstaff news there has been little of any concrete info in the offing this week. Mind you that alone caused a stir. Between now and the transfer window opening on June 14th, which is the date for the European Championships to start there will be little to speculate on.

The main issue is getting Carl Rushworth on loan for another season, with Ipswich Town believing they hold the cards, that will be a difficult scenario for the Swans to match. The retained list has been delayed, but there is no obligation on the Swans to release details immediately, unless there are specific issues which are not obvious. So, we understand it will be Saturday at the latest from the information we have. The only issue seems to be the players and their acceptance of a new contract, especially in Jamie Paterson’s case. We still stand by the fact Joe Allen’s contract has been thrashed out but for Kyle Naughton (he was released last season then offered a one year deal) Liam Walsh and Przemysław Placheta there is still uncertainty. See edit below.

Nathan Wood and Liam Cullen have had a one year option extended by the club. In Nathan’s case we still beleive that’s so he can be moved on at a better price this summer. It seems Cullen has accepted his lot and having been told by head coach, Luke Williams he will get his rewards if he is consistent next season, that’s where he stands.

Bashir Humphreys, Charlie Patino, Charlie Sagoe JNR, Harrison Ashby and Carl Rushworth are now back at their clubs with their agents and parent clubs looking for more opportunities for their development next season. Jamal Lowe will be a free agent shortly, no problems for him securing another club on a contract. Most of those sides in a better financial state or with more funds than Swansea City.

We shouldn’t forget that Kristian Pedersen is still a Swans player after a loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday, as is Nathan Tjoe-A-On, so they will be back for summer training. We understand Nathanael Ogbeta already knows his future is away from Swansea City.

The targets for the summer we won’t speculate on, as that’s all it will be. What we do know is a goalkeeper, midfielder and striker are high priority. The management of those signings has to be astute but also with an eye on losing their targets. The Swans have a chequered past when it comes to acting slowly and then eventually losing their priority signings. It happens every season.

We will of course continue to report on what we know and what may lay ahead in every instance.

Edit : Kyle Naughton has been handed a one year contract this afternoon.
