Exclusive : Swansea City close to appointing a non British head coach ? Latest on Sheehan
Sunday, 16th Mar 2025 19:16 by Keith Haynes

Swansea City interim head coach Alan Sheehan meets with Richard Montague this week regards his immediate future at the Swans. His future is now definitely under the microscope after the last two games. And there’s a change of heart with some decision makers within the club.

There is no real opposition to him being granted more games to guide the Swans away from the relegation zone, after all he is the cheapest option by far. The length of that time is the issue now. And there are reasons why. The Swans have two targets away from the club who have already been spoken to over the last ten days, we expect two further discussions with the same candidates - potentially this week. Without doubt the only decision left now is when the successor to Luke Williams starts work. If that person is approved with the board agreeing then Alan Sheehan at this moment in time will have to do a tremendous amount of convincing. The tables are turning very quickly. Having said that Sheehan remains a candidate. The clubs plight will be on the minds of those two external candidates for sure. The additional runner as we know is Alan Sheehan, a week ago there was a majority in favour for him to either take the role until the end of the season, or even permanently amongst the Swans support.

Exclusive ⚽️ No external candidate is British, so based on that we can rule out Hibernian manager, David Gray, he isn’t in the running, and we can also confirm that Eric Ramsay currently working in the USA is also not in contention.

The big question for Sheehan to answer this week is can he get a tune out of this squad and get the potential two wins required for the fans of the club to breath easy. We will look at those remanning fixtures now.

The crucial week comes after the Leeds United away game at the end of March. Two home games, both against teams who will no doubt be desperate for points for their own survival. In Derby we see a resurgent team as it stands today, three wins on the bounce. Plymouth are at the foot of the table and could well be needing wins to stay up or actually go down by the time these games come around. In any event these games will be harder than the two faced over the last five days, both losses. The chances of Harry Darling being back are more than good, he just missed out on selection yesterday after a very rigid and demanding fitness test.

As he did late last year maybe Wales manager, Craig Bellamy we hope can sprinkle some more of his magic over Liam Cullen. He had a positive time with Craig during the last international break, scoring crucial goals, and returned to score goals for his club as well. Six in a short calendar month starting against Leeds and finishing against QPR on Boxing Day.

What is evident now is that there really needs to be some stability with an outgoing Chairman and candidates for the role of head coach now being gathered. They will both be in Swansea very soon. After that we can expect an announcement and at least the squad and the fans will then know a new man will be in town or Sheehan bags it. What is certain is that new staff for all these head coaches will be appointed.
