Exeter City v Swansea City : More than just a game
Friday, 25th Jul 2025 19:50 by Liam Walters

The Swans are in Devon tomorrow afternoon for a 1pm kick off against Exeter City. Without a doubt the visitors will still be smarting from that 2-1 defeat at Cheltenham Town on Wednesday evening at Whaddon Road. Then we saw an extremely lethargic and almost carefree attitude to wanting to display the sides abilities in what has been an excellent recruitment campaign this summer.

So, it’s to St James Park we go.

The main feature tomorrow will be the testimonial for Exeter captain Pierce Sweeney, a player who has been at the club for nearly ten years. Speaking to the official Grecians website he said, "It's gonna be an emotional day. It's gonna be a special day for me, and I'm just trying to enjoy the build up to it. I've got work to do between now and then, to get myself ready for the game, and make sure I'm in the right mindset to perform in the game first and foremost. My family and friends start to come on Friday so that's when it'll start kinda getting a little real. Saturday morning will take care of itself and then we're straight into the business come 1pm on Saturday and yeah I'm really looking forward to it. It's gonna be a special day for me, but I think for the football club as well. I think it's been a long time since anybody's had one of these. I and I would probably predict that it'll be another good few years until the next one. So really looking forward to it."

We really do wish him well for his big day, fully deserved.

The actual game itself will see the crowd swelled by a good few thousand home fans who will want to acknowledge his service to the club. On Wednesday night around a thousand Jacks were at Whaddon Road, to our knowledge there won’t be as many travelling tomorrow, but the interest in this Swansea City side is increasing. Despite the loss, the Swans took on Barnsley today in a behind closed doors game and will also have another one next week. This game is sandwiched in-between those fixtures before hosting Lorient from Ligue 2 in France on Saturday (3pm) That will be the Swans last opportunity to get their message across to fans in a home setting. The following week a long eleven hour (at the minimum on a weekend from Swansea and back) journey will be undertaken by many local supporters.

Hundreds more will also travel.

For now we get to see the Swans for a second time in four days at Exeter City tomorrow afternoon. Safe travels to all that go. And if you want a good laugh on the way have an eyeful of this.

A mere response that this website has sent on Twitter has hit at the heart of Disney + FC.
