Swansea City : Club now in advanced talks with financial settlements being discussed
Thursday, 31st Jul 2025 12:37 by Keith Haynes

Swansea City will further their financial interest in Richard Kone later today with discussions already taking place. The Wycombe Wanderers forward is now the subject of multiple bids which will elevate his price tag if a bidding war occurs.

Wycombe Wanderers have suggested that five million pounds is their price for the twenty two year old. However, with that more than a wish than a fact the Swans will negotiate in a particular way to encourage the player to talk - and also with a view to putting together a financial package for Wycombe. The speculated four and a half million pounds touted by other outlets may well be a long term package, but how this is being reported as fact is astonishing. in fact Swansea City could even offer incentives that take the bid over this rumoured figure. Things like league placing, sell on fee, goals scored and appearances are common place. Via Sporting Director, Richard Montague there are a multiple other increments he will provide. Promotion will most certainly be included along with a strong image rights deal for the player. Another factor to encourage contract talks.

The key to all this is the contractual length for Kone with the Swans now preferring a four year deal which in turn stretches out the financial commitment. Whether that comes together we won’t find out until any official announcement is made. Some questions we have received today.

1. Are the Swans in the front seats for the player ?
The answer is now yes, but only as of this afternoon, these deals are so fluid with the Swans wanting the player in rapidly before the season starts. If Wycombe stall then as has happened before in these cases the Swans will quickly move on. Joe Low in January a prime example.

2. Has a 4.5M bid been put in ?
Again, we don’t think so, none of our sources are agreeing with the same outlets who we have previously reported incorrect information on players joining the Swans. We have always stated there’s a big difference between phone calls, face to face discussions, playing chess, asking for valuations and then negotiations on finances as explained above.

3. What do we think Swansea will do ?
Quite simply the Swans normal stance as per Inoussa at the start of the summer is to offer a fee up front, usually in the region of £800k to a million pounds. They then spread the costs over the length of the players contract which is why now Swansea prefer four years as opposed to three. Profit and sustainability is then less impactive. At no point will any Championship club offer the full amount, even Birmingham City and Wrexham (rumours of their interest we think is them trying to unsettle other Championship clubs ) The potential for Wrexham to become involved officially is slim, remember the fluidity of these things is changing by the hour.

We can only deal with the facts we know, and as it stands this could all be polished up by this evening, but we expect it to run longer. Nobody knows what Montague is saying to Wycombe, and reports of this and that and figures cannot be known. It’s impossible. He isn’t on the telephone to the BBC in amongst private and confidential discussions that’s for sure. It’s not his way, it’s not professional and cheapens his bargaining position when in talks.

There’s no more free radical as folk as we approach the Championship opening fixtures. This is known as the most difficult time to negotiate permanent transfers with clubs wanting players in and clubs like Wycombe holding on for the best offer. That’s how it goes. And immediate yes or no answers don’t exist on this website.
