Friday Evening Lowdown : Latest Swans match day news , Owls extra
Friday, 29th Aug 2025 18:18 by Liam Walters & Keith Haynes

The Swans are in preparation mode this afternoon running into this evening at a location within easy distance of Hillsborough, the home of Sheffield Wednesday. It depends how you look at the Championship season so far with one win, one draw and one loss as to your positivity regards tomorrow (3pm)

Sheffield Wednesday displayed a backs against the wall performance last weekend in their 2-2 draw with Wrexham, and to be honest could have taken all the points. The League Cup win against Leeds United did more to stamp their fighting credentials this week with a penalty shoot out win. News on their squad is that Pierce Charles is out and could be for quite a while. The Northern Ireland international will be a huge miss.

A look at Sheffield Wednesday and their transfer dealings this window makes poor reading.

⚽️ Confirmed Departures
• Anthony Musaba — to Samsunspor (undisclosed fee)
• Djeidi Gassama — to Rangers (fee reported at around €2.4 million)
• Caelan Cadamarteri — to Manchester City (undisclosed fee)
• Several players left on free transfers or were released, including:
• Stuart Armstrong, Ryo Hatsuse, Pol Valentin, Mallik Wilks, Michael Ihiekwe, Marvin Johnson, Josh Windass, Callum Paterson, Michael Smith, Akin Famewo

Sheffield Wednesday’s transfer activity this summer was extremely limited due to ongoing EFL restrictions that prevent the club from paying fees for transfers, loans, or compensation, allowing only free or academy acquisitions.

⚽️ Players in
• Harry Evers – Left-back from Liverpool (free)
• Cole McGhee – Centre-back from Preston North End (free)
• Denny Oliver – Central midfielder from Lincoln City (free)
• Ethan Horvath joined on loan from Cardiff City until January 2026, filling a gap after injuries to their senior goalkeepers. He debuted with a 2–2 draw against Wrexham and helped defeat Leeds United on penalties in the EFL Cup. Ethan is a good keeper and will I still confident in his defence over the season until January for sure.

The Swans are pretty looking decent with striker, Adam Idah yet to be confirmed but very much looking like a Swans player. Head Coach, Alan Sheehan reported on his squad before setting off for Yorkshire. “A lot of our games so far we are talking about the need to be clinical, but it’s also about what comes first. Ultimately we want to build character and confidence and then things start flowing. There are a lot of things that are going very well at the moment but we need to get to a place where we are hurting teams on the scoreboard, as well. We know goals change games, there’s big moments within a lot of games, a lot of these clinical moments where if you’re taking them you’re in the ascendency” The improvement of late in Zân Vipotnik (2 goals in 2 games) gives Sheehan a quandary, two weeks back he stated that Liam Cullen has the shirt. Surely though you would play your in-form players in a game where goals are crucial against a competitive Sheffield Wednesday ?

Play your most in-form side, win the game and move on.

Sheehan has been very well supported this summer, in fact some are saying he has no excuses once the window closes (Mon 7pm) After that we will have a comprehensive breakdown of those transfers in and out and how we fared on the Indy over a very long summer.

⚽️ Alan Sheehan, press conference.

More big game news in the morning.
