Season Ticket Totaliser Thread 21:41 - Mar 20 with 142274 views442Dale

We have 87 days for people to get their £50 deposits in to determine the price of the 2017/18 Season Tickets.

Average amount of daily sales required by 21st June to hit the targets:
2000 (£250): 23
2500 (£200): 29
3000 (£150): 35
4000 (£110): 46

Keeping a track of this really helped ramp up the interest when Hartlepool fans did it, so hopefully it'll have a similar effect. Debate the numbers here over the next week, then we can add the figures once sales commence.

Spot on the money NB.

With the benefit of hindsight, if we wanted to maximise numbers, at the very least we should have put forward our lowest price (e.g £150 for sales <4k) and £110 for sales >4k from the outset. The thing is, Russ has the benefit of hindsight. Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt.

I don't suppose for a second the various tiers were costed, since they are all very conveniently set at round numbers and have been revised twice anyway (and may be again). With a month to go, we've had another price drop. Even this doesn't feel right, as Russ dropped the price to £150 at Hartlepool before the deadline.

The worry now is that the offer may fail to capture many of the exact people it was trying to attract as a result of being cumbersome, over-complicated, non user-friendly, poorly marketed and not what the customer wanted but what the club wanted. I suppose it was naïve to expect anything else? Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose.

All reasons to look forward and do a re-launch. Those people it was trying to attract can be rengaged by simplicity, the rest of us who know what's happened can debate the right and wrongs and either buy/promote which is positive, or let something that can't be changed become the focus.

The latter sounds a bit rubbish for the moment.

I hope you are right 442. I hope all the people who went to Wembley are targeted, I hope all the people who initially saw this offer and thought "nah" see the new offer. I hope £200 isn't seen to still be to expensive (it is double the half ST offer - double the price and double + 1 games) and I hope it isn't too late. I'll finish my post there, with hope.

There was nothing in the weekly e mail newsletter about the season tickets. This must be sent to hundreds if not thousands of folks. I think the only way they have my contact details is through wembley ticket purchases.

Its almost like they have given up and moved on to something else. Pretty disappointing.

400 not renewed is really frustrating. If everyone would have been on board for renewing early the momentum would have seen us hit a much higher target. Hopefully the reduction will get us to 2000 but if ticket holders from last season weren't willing to renew at £250 I'm guessing the majority won't renew at all.

Sorry Encylopedia salesman time again.
if people put down £50 deposit today. They only need to put by £12.50 per week to cover the final payment of £150 (if it is due by the start of the season) or £1.79 per day

Instead of moving goal posts might it be better to make the deposit partially refundable. Say 50% would be refunded plus a X% discount voucher for the club shop

A few observations.

1/ The clubs stated aim is to boost numbers significantly. If you listen again to the RG interview on the OS home page, there is talk there about 5k, 5.5k and 6k "potential" that the club wants to try to capture. RG states categorically that KH wants the 12th man behind his team and RG wants to deliver that. He described '16-'17 crowds as embarrassing.

2/ If the price of a product a retailer offers is not what the customer wants to pay, they either go elsewhere for the same/similar or buy something else/bank the cash.

3/ Even if "the missing 400" and 400 of their mates turn up and buy, the current £250 cap for a ST drops to £200. This is neither going to get us over 3k nor is it going to give us the 12th man. Point 1 and point 2 are at complete odds with each other at present. The product offered is not fit for purpose.

4/ In sales, you have to react to what the customer wants and give it to them, within reason, or you will not sell what you want to sell. We know what the club wants to sell, so the product it is trying to sell MUST be priced accordingly. It really is that simple.

From tomorrow, there will only be 28 days to buy online. There will be 20 working days (when most people will be at work) and 2 x 9am-1pm Saturdays (10/6 and 17/6). Deadline day has the ticket office open until 8pm. So 22 shopping days to buy in person. That time will fly in the blink of an eye and is running out fast.

I have no agenda posting this other than I would love more bums on seats and a better home atmosphere and advantage for the 23 games we play at the COA. I don't care what the price is - I will buy a ST at £200 regardless and probably walk away above that price, but £200 is my guess on where this is currently going to end up based on the current scope of the offer.

With regards to having a convertible deposit, it might have been a good idea to announce this on day 1 to maximise momentum, but now, if people don't like the final price because it ends up too high, they won't buy a ST. That is counter-productive as it doesn't increase the crowd revenue and the 12th man effect. We want people to turn up on Saturdays, not walk away.

In view of the time constraints and the clubs stated aim, I again suggest that the £150 cap needs to be implemented immediately to allow it to be communicated, marketed and the information further disseminated by word of mouth etc. to give the offer a chance of succeeding. I have heard many calls for patience and "let's wait and see" on here. I have also spent longer than I care to mention in a technical sales environment and waiting is not the way to achieve targets. Sales have to be driven and strategies have to be amended according to market forces. If this offer fails, it will be a crying shame.

There's little doubt there have been issues that should have been addressed to ensure the floating fans imagination was captured again after the initial surge. The situation around the recent lack of momentum has illustrated that there is a need to do something to increase sales. We can only hope that there is a clear plan to deal with this though, as Dalei rightly points out, time is running out.

I think we're all in agreement that sales aren't where we'd hope and more should and, more importantly, could be done. We can only offer constructive solutions and play our part as supporters. With hindsight they should definitely have ensured the highest price was set at £250 and marketed that -"huge reductions on last season and it could get even cheaper". If it had been that, then any regular or would be regular would have had little reason not to buy in.

Still, we must move forwards and try and get as many people as possible to be aware of this fantastic price. Because £250 is exactly that, yet it wasn't on the latest ad...

I'm pretty sure that £250 hasn't been mentioned because the maximum price they will be is £200 - whether we hit 2000 or not.

But as it stands it's £250, so remove that doubt. See a post above which did exactly that when the price was initially dropped.

The ad the other day which saw the move to '2000 sales = £200' didn't tell anyone reading it what the price would be right now. Remove the element of doubt and answer possible questions for the potential fan who knows little.

As an aside, I picked up the excellent Junior Dale bag for my two today. My lad then took it to his cricket session this evening and gave a speech about what u11s get by joining Junior Dale (bag, water bottle, pen set, scarf) and handed out leaflets. When I went back to pick him up he'd put leaflets out on the benches where parents sit, and people were reading them while waiting for the game to end.

Is it worth a gamble? drop the price to £150 now. If the 4000 deposits come in drop it to the £110 price. Extend the deposit cut off by a week.

Interesting take on this from a neighbour of mine I bumped into yesterday. Long-standing (now, sitting) season-ticket holder; attended his first match in the 1940's; hasn't (yet) renewed his season-ticket, simply because he refuses to pay anything until he knows the price! (So, presumably will renew eventually.). Seems to me a lot of time, money and effort could have been saved by just selling them at £110 from the get-go! Whatever figure is eventually achieved by this unnecessarily convoluted sales-method will probably still fall short of what would have been achieved without it, even if the price eventually ends up at £110!

Was he paying more than £250 last season? If not, the price is known and he can renew at a guaranteed saving.

If he doesn't renew before 21st June people will have to pay the full price (ie. Last year's) which was made clear from the start.

I'm sure if he doesn't know that already you can tell him and help out the initiative!

Well if he renews eventually (after June 21st) when the final price is known he'll be paying what he paid last season. Does he understand this?

Is it seriously the case that if you don't put £50 down, even if the price ends up at £110 for them, it will be full-price for everyone else? Honestly, that is a genuine question. Even for someone who takes a passing interest, I had no idea. That makes the original "offer" even more laughable, and I didn't think that was possible! Clearly, the world looks a very different place from the inside looking out! Perhaps someone from the club needs to go round to this guy's house, because I may not see him again. You couldn't make this up!

PS "made clear" is one of the biggest contradictions in terms I've ever come across!

I sincerely hope that someone from the club is monitoring this thread. This offer has to be repositioned now. NordenBlue and BobbyJoe's mate are just 2 fans that haven't signed up, not to mention the "missing 400". How many more have we not captured in spite of all the hard work promoting this?

Again, make it simple and clear. Suggestion:

If you pay your deposit by 21/6, you will pay a maximum of £150
If we hit 4k sales, it will drop to £110
If we do not receive your deposit by 21/6, the price will become £xxx.

Even if this message is widely publicised today, it may still not filter down to people like BobbyJoe's mate and many others who don't follow the clubs social media output or this forum for news.

This has been in the public domain for two months, with several revisions.

Your mate would have received a letter with his season ticket outlining the plan.

It's not the club's fault that he hasn't read or digested that letter or that you had no idea how the scheme worked, particularly as it has been discussed on here for what is now 22 pages.

Most other people seem to have understood it, so it was perfectly clear.

Whether it's ideal or not is a different matter altogether.

Like 442 says, pop round to your mate's, explain how it works and tell him he will be paying £10.87 per game (£250 season ticket) or £8.70 per game (£200 season ticket).

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

Yes it's the same as past 'early bird' offers - if you don't purchase by the date stated then the price goes up to full price (i.e. Last seasons price) - as others have said this was clear from the start - and why most fans have put down their £50 deposit already.

Tbh, the clarity or otherwise of the offer and trying to resolve that in an individual instance is just background noise. The big picture is the true concern. 1600ish STs sold. That's the problem that needs fixing and that's where the focus should be. Going to stop banging my head against this brick wall now though, I'm starting to get a headache.

It is a problem though if the missing hundreds of fans yet to buy think that the price after June 21st will be set depending on how many we sell. It won't! It will be just that price to those who've paid deposits.
I think the club need to make a statement of some sort saying that you've. less than a month to get your discounted season ticket.
