Player of the season: Joey Rafferty for me. Bunney and Henderson not far behind.
Best match: Either the Sheffield United 3-3 at home, or the 1-0 at home to Bolton. The final match against Bradford was good too.
Best performance: The first half at Chesterfield was just divine. There was such a gulf between the teams it was embarrassing.
Worst match: The loss at Coventry was dire. Coventry were atrocious and we somehow managed to concede 2 goals. That stadium feels more soulless every time I go too.
Worst performance: Shrewsbury away. Every single player was hopeless, and in a match that mattered so much. Or the 4-0 defeat to Oxford at home. What a way to end our stunning home winning record.
Most significant match: For me it was 2-1 at home to Fleetwood. It was mid-September and we hadn't won yet despite some performances that warranted more. Fleetwood were riding high and Hill chose to play (at the time!) a strange lineup. People around me commented that this could be a cricket score to Fleetwood. But we came up with our best performance to date, a deserved win, and a run of 6 straight victories.
Best goal: Davies at home to Bolton for me. Great persistence and a beautiful finish.
Most heartbreaking moment: Losing at Scunthorpe in the final minute. We've had a ridiculous amount of late goals conceded this season but this one really hurt. It was our tenth game without a win and I had real hope we'd turn it around against what I hoped was a playoff rival. We'd been the better side all game and somehow lost in the last moments.
Best atmosphere: Oldham away was great. And those 10 minutes or so when we'd finally made it back into the playoffs and everything was going our way were genuinely spine-tingling.
Other memorable moments:
- In a season where this club has at times looked like it's turned a corner off the pitch yet also taken 100 steps back at other times, the moments after Josh McCormack's tragic prognosis when the whole footballing country united in support of Josh, his family, and the club after he was named a squad player were touching beyond belief.
- Calvin Andrew's record (?) ban was memorable for all the wrong reasons.
- Joel Taylor becoming one of the most mystifying signings in recent memory.

- Aaron Morley making the breakthrough into the first team as a 16-year-old and reminding us all just how bright and exciting the future of this football club is. Then being named the 3rd most productive youth academy in England. [Post edited 4 May 2017 22:28]

Best match: I will go for Rochdale 3 Scunny 2. Ignore the 2 for the away team, for 80 minutes we bossed them big style.
Best performance: Bolton at home, the whole team from back to front.
Worst match: Peterborough away. 2 Red cards, both of them stupid. With 9 men we were better than their 11, we lost, it cost a fortune, never going back there again
Worst performance: See above. Or Oxford at home
Most significant match: Rochdale 2 Peterborough 3. Winning twice, lost in the last minute. Set the tone for most of the season.
Best goal: Camps at bury.
Most heartbreaking moment: Scunny winner away with the lastish kick. We had a few of them (Northampton at home was a gut-wrencher too)
Best atmosphere: None jump out at me this year as being particularly special.

Player of the season: Joe Bunney - a real find by Hill to switch him to left back - his win percentage playing there must be huge - his injury cost us the play offs.
Best match: Rochdale 1 Bolton 0 - a real proper performance, under huge pressure throughout but we stood up to them and Davies scored a belter.

Player of the season: Raff; consistently brilliant having to fill in a number of positions. Essential we keep hold of him.
Best match: Loved the win against Bolton. Loved how we defended at the end. Scunthorpe at home was epic as well, we were arguably the first team to play them off the park all season. Loved staying unbeaten against Bury and Oldham!
Best performance: Chesterfield away. Dominance. Also enjoyed the 4-0 wins at home and Bury away. We didn't have to attack much but just completely nullified their threat.
Worst match: Shrewsbury away definitely. Lovely day for football, it was such a big opportunity. Wasn't to be, just a massive bad day at the office.
Worst performance: Oxford and Shrewsbury.
Most significant match: The win at Walsall was so complete; that was the day I believed we could get the top 6. Then Bunney was injured, that was actually the day everything went wrong!
Best goal: For me Hendo's vs Chesterfield. Unbelievable skill to hit that first time and get it right in the top corner. If that was Aguero everyone would still purr about it.
Most heartbreaking moment: So many; Millwall at home really hurt when we battled so well to turn the game around to win 3-2 in a game we really needed a win; but we just couldn't hold on.
Best atmosphere: Oldham away; like Shun said, those 10 minutes at Oldham were special; one of those 'I was there' moments.
Other memorable moments: Loved seeing Morley get game time. What a prospect he is. The thing I love the most is how players now seem to genuinely love being here, their frequent posts on social media saying Up the Dale, they all go out together, they seem to be the best of mates. Also fantastic to see players like McGahey and Rathbone become really valuable parts of our team.
Even though we just missed out in the end, I've absolutely loved this season, I think we've made great strides and the future has never been brighter.
If we lose NML and Lund, we all know Hill will find a way of replacing them within our budget.

Missed a fair few games this season but I'll give it a go...
Player of the season: Joe Bunney. Of course there were other injuries, but his long-term absence really cost us a play-off place. The difference he makes to the team is clear to see.
Best match: Scunthorpe at home. They were the league leaders and we played them off the pitch!
Best performance: Walsall at home. Won 4-0 and I've never seen a performance so utterly dominant.
Worst match: Shrewsbury away. We lost a game that had 0-0 written all over it.
Worst performance: See above. We simply did not turn up and played like we were on the beach.
Most significant match: Beating Fleetwood at home, purely to lift the gloom that had developed after our winless start
Best goal: Hendo v Chesterfield (H). Pure technique
Most heartbreaking moment: On the pitch, I'll go with Peterborough's last minute winner. A game we absolutely did not deserve to lose.
Off it, hearing Joe Thompson's cancer had returned absolutely crushed me.
Best atmosphere: I'll echo other sentiments and say the 10 minutes at Oldham when we were back in the play-offs!
Other memorable moments: I wasn't there, but watching Camps' free-kick find the bottom corner at Maidstone on Final Score sticks out.
My housemates had been giving me grief about losing to a non-league side for the best part of an hour. I don't think there was a piece of furniture I didn't jump on when that goal went in! | | | |

Missed a fair few games with work this season but went to every game when I wasn't working - so going off what I've seen.
Player of the season: Joe Bunney. The difference between how well we played with him in the team and without it was telling. I was one of his biggest critics before this season, too.
Best match: The home win over Bury. Seeing them well and truly lose their rags with how much better than them we were was great. Seemed to spell the beginning of the end for Flicker, too.
Best performance: Gillingham for me. I'd given up on the play-offs at that point (was an incredible swing that day and the week after that got us back in the hunt!) and just really enjoyed a fine performance from everyone.
Worst match: The defeat at Bradford. You could tell pretty early on that nothing was going to go our way and that proved to be the case. Made worse by the fact we usually play pretty well there. AFC Wimbledon away went a pretty similar way, too.
Worst performance: See above.
Most significant match: Fleetwood, definitely. I think even the most rational of fans were starting to worry ever so slightly at that point but Bunney moving to left-back, Keane coming in and doing a great job in defensive midfield and Steven Davies getting his first goal were all key to a good performance and our first win of the season.
Best goal: Mendez against Gillingham. The finish was amazing but the turn that sent the defender for a hot dog was even better. I've loved watching him play this season, particularly in the last few months.
Most heartbreaking moment: There have been a few. From the games I was at, the last minute equaliser at MK Dons was horrible, particularly as I felt we played really well that day, deserved the win and it would've put us right back into the mix. Also it's a horrible club to drop points to.
Best atmosphere: Perhaps because I'd had a decent drink before both, but the Barrow and Carlisle FA Cup visits for me.
Other memorable moments:
The main memories of this season for me will come from the great days out at Barrow and Carlisle and the mesmerising performances of Mendez-Laing in two/three games. Enjoyed this season and gives me hope that with a few little alterations here and there we can and will finish in the top six next season.

Best opposition fans: Couldn't make it to Boundary Park but the Oldham fans at Spotland were excellent, didn't stop singing and bouncing around despite losing in a local derby. Really got behind their team. [Post edited 7 May 2017 16:05]

Joe Rafferty, right back is one of the less glamorous positions on a football field so for JR to have picked up the fans POTS is a massive credit to him as to the fans the right/left back positions aren't necessarily the positions that you go to games to watch.
Sheffield United at home, a fantastic game of football which saw some wonderful goals scored by both teams played in a great atmosphere at Spotland, Chris Wilder's whose team eventually went on to amass 100 points as champions admitted in his post match interview that Dale had been the better side despite the 3-3 score line.
Huddersfield, I know that they are having a wonderful season in The Championship but when the draw was made we were flying and most of us on here thought that we had a great chance of making the 5th round. The 4-0 tonking was a bit of a rude awakening.
Bristol Rovers at home, on paper it looked like a great fixture for us to stop our mini slump and pick up our 2nd league win of 2017, in reality it was poor quality game against a team showing no ambition to win the game and a missed chance to start to pick up some real momentum again.
Bolton at home, it felt great to knock them down a peg or two and I bet it didn't half make our bucket shaking friends jealous!
Hendo Vs Chesterfield, it showed everything I love in a player of his ability, grace, style and the arrogance to take on a shot a goal in one touch.
Probably last Sunday, I honestly thought that we would beat Bradford and that bury would get something at Southend to ensure their own survival and after Millwall's previous result against Oxford I thought that they had gone. I couldn't have been more wrong!
Sheffield Utd at home, as I've said above a fantastic game played in front of a decent Spotland crowd, when a game is as enthralling as that one then as supporters we react to it.
I think finally now there is almost an expectation at all levels of the club that we should be competing for the playoffs/promotion positions in this division. Regardless of what's happened over the last few days we should ALL be behind Russ Green and his season ticket initiative, the guy has been a breath of fresh air with his ideas to get more people through the gates at Spotland. |  | | |
