I'm genuinely interested in the relationship you guys have with other clubs in the North West.

Being an Ipswich fan we hate Norwich and they hate us and we are 40 miles apart. Teams like Colchester are closer to us and while they hate us we've already wanted them to do well as they were no threat. Likewise Norwich have a similar relationship with Peterborough.

You guys have an abundance of clubs though. So I'd be fascinated to know how you feel about Bury, Oldham, Bolton, Blackburn, Burnley, Accrington, Wigan, Stockport Man City, Man Utd and any others in the mix. Which clubs would you say you 'hate' (in a footballing sense), dislike, don't mind or even like to do well?

Have you ever cared about Man City or Man Utd because they were in a completely different league since always and were teams like Stockport fierce rivals who are or aren't still considered to be because they are so far down the pyramid.

Also, Ipswich have a real history with both Sheffield United (known as the Norwich of the North) after a couple of very violent playoff matches (played them two years running) and Bolton (same thing - they kicked us off the park in the playoffs two years running). Any other teams Dale have a big rivalry with that aren't geographically - Notts County perhaps?

I think a lot of it depends on the person around these parts. Obviously we have Oldham and Bury who offend me simply by existing.

After that, I don't really mind too much about the rest of them. I quite like Burnley because I play football with Scott Arfield's best mate and know quite a few Burnley fans. I like Rovers because I'm good friends with a rovers fan etc.

Not a big fan of United and City but not in a rivalry kinda way, obviously we're not rivals, but I just don't like their 'massive club' mentalities and the way that their fans conduct themselves in general.

Bolton I have no real feelings about, and I kinda like seeing Accrington do well as the underdogs, despite Coleman's presence there.

I too have adopted the obvious disliking for Oldham and Bury.

It's pretty easy. Oldham had Lee Croft and Bury had James Vaughan, both ex-Norwich players who were very unpopular. Oldham also had a plastic pitch and Bury were the most negative team I have ever seen in the Championship.

I'm sure you have a lot more reasons to dislike them.

For me my main dislike is for Burnley, Halifax and Stockport as they was our rivals when I started watching the Dale, I like the rivalries of berry and ohdum, but don't actually hate them.

I was around for the Burnley thing but it never really seemed to be a rivalry as it was soon obvious they'd be going on to bigger and better things and we wouldn't.

Probably the main one since then has been Stockport after their pillaging of our club which they're still paying for.

Bury these days is a rivalry but I hate their modus operandi rather than their fans.

Oldham is a decent local game but still doesn't feel like a rivalry because they think it beneath them to admit to it. I prefer them to Bury as they're more existentially conscientious.

Having been born in Bury, grown up on the Bury side of town and having gone to college in Bury, the majority of my mates are Bury fans. Hence, I really, really, really enjoy beating Bury.

I'd consider Oldham our second rivals and judging from what older fans have told me, I'd love us to draw Burnley in the cup or something to see what the atmosphere would be like if we were to head over to Turf Moor.

I have no particularly strong opinions on the rest. Sky tried to bill us and Stockport as a 'derby' in the play-off final in 2008 but it was never really anything of the sort. The Notts County thing is slowly starting to go away.

Notts main rivals has always been and always will be Forest, their big headed supporters are a constant irritation to us and they honestly believe that they are a bigger club than they really are,you only have to mention football and the subject will turn to the European Cups that they won,and you take your life in your hands if you dare ridicule Cloughy, they say that they don't care about us though and their big rivals are Derby but only last month there was a story on the local news about a fight between Notts and Forest in the town centre

Probably enjoying beating Oldham more than anyone else--whilst being a Dale fan from being taken to Spotland as a 5th birthday treat I went to watch Latics play with mates from school whilst at Chadderton Grammar( days of Bobby Johnstone) until the day they tried to make me pay full price as a 15 year old(I was a big lad) and I refused and got on a bus and went to watch Dale Reserves.Never went back other than occasionally to watch Les Chapman play when he was starting out on his career as he also had attended school and also played a few times for an amateur side I played for as a teenager.
No real problem with Bury other than those teenage "tossers " bigging it up at games, but then know one or two Bury fans who are nice enough folks ,but still nice to beat them.
The only bigger club that I have any dislike for is United mainly because they always give the impression of thinking they have a divine right to be the best and always have an excuse why they didn't win rather than accepting that no one wins them all

Bury are our main rivals. Proximity and familiarity being the main reasons for me - on this latter point, I'm guessing/assuming we're the most played derby in the lower two leagues over the past 20 years or so.

Oldham come next, again due to proximity. I wonder if there are two more closely located clubs that don't share the same town or city.

Stockport was a bit of a rivalry. It'd be nice if they started to become relevant again to see if that rivalry remains.

Other than that, nobody really. Accrington I really like and wish well. Notts County I dislike, but as ATP says, that's starting to fade. Port Vale I have a strong dislike for too, as their club and fans are like something out of the Stone Age.

No matter how many times that I read it it's still hilarious, how do you Daley's do it?

In the late 60s and early 70s Halifax was always a 'tasty' rivalry, partly because our fortunes seemed to move in parallel so we were usually rivals for relegation/relection or, in the case of 69-9, promotion. Two games a week apart in the run in for promotion that season still stick in my memory. The convoys of fans going over the top were remarkable.

I seem to recall Moggy had a particular hatred for them over the hill!

What made Halifax rivalry special was the fact it was a Lancashire v Yorkshire battle too.
Could have a right good day out going by train, and stopping off at stops before having a few pints, before catching another train.

I think it's Walsall and West Brom stadiums - just over 4 miles apart.
