Dale were losing 2-0 but came back to win 3-2 with the winner coming late on from Derek Ryder of all people. |

Yes it was part of that long winning run (10 games?) that took us to the top of the table. Went 2-0 down and then turned on the tap. Dont remember the other goals but the Ryder winner sticks in the memory vividly

I have just watched the highlights on youtube, plus one from a Dorking fan and the pitch looked awful, it looked worse then Oxford City, which may be a 5G pitch, but having said that in both videos, Rochdale looked to have played well and created chances.

Think the highlights dont tell the full story of the match. Couldnt have argued if Dorking had won that 1-0 really as they werent shy in getting the ball into the box and did cause a few problems. The pitch really was poor and it does give them a big home advantage so to dig out the three points despite that was massive.
Bringing Jez on straight after they scored made the difference as he had their fullback on toast everytime so would expect him to start on Tuesday against his old club. Hendo looked like he may have picked up a knock right at the end as well so expect Jez will come in with Hendo back on the bench. | | | |

Just a thought, but the return Dorking fixture is our last home game of the season
It could even be our last game of the standard season, if Southend can't get themselves sorted out
(Our own troubles may be having an impact at that stage, too)
But... it'd be good to think the fixture will have some significance as to whether we extend our season beyond that point | |

The way Jez beat his man to set up the winner was reminiscent of Mendez-Laing at his best. Not seen pace like that from a Dale player since then - its a massive asset to the team and frightens opposition defences to death. He's certainly made the difference in our last 2 wins. |  |

I've just listened to Jim's post match interview. I always thought he'd be good at the off-pitch comms side of the role - reconnecting the players and the fans, building culture, adopting a humble modern leadership style deflecting praise on to others etc. But the sophistication of his footballing brain and in-game tactical side was much more of an unknown. The way he's subtly educating us on this in a non-patronising way in the immediate aftermath of a game when his emotions must be running high has been very impressive.
It also means he doesn't then feel the need to personally conduct the pre-match interviews as well, as he's got nothing to clear up and no need to try to change the narrative a few days later when in a more reflective, calmer state of mind. That has the positive knock on effect of us not getting bored of his voice, and by empowering the players to take on the pre-match interviews it develops the bond between us and them, and makes us realise they're really all just likeable young lads trying their best.
We might not be winning every game and seeing everything play out exactly as we'd like it on the pitch every week, but there's lots of little nuanced signs emerging that suggest we might have a manager with a natural flair for the role who could take us on an exciting journey over the coming seasons. Given his inexperience I think he's doing an excellent job and I'm loving listening to him educate us on what he's trying to achieve. | | | |

Jim has in his locker (Barnet for example) to send a team out playing a front foot attack minded brand of football.Its when Dale look our absolute best so hopeful this will be shown in the coming weeks and months.

I wholeheartedly agree with everything there 'Bob. For me, it was clear from the very 1st interview that if he could get a fair crack at it, then he was gonna do great things.
I would say he is what K Hill was without the negative ego side of things, and the ability to go much farther.
Hopefully, he will do great things with Rochdale, but if for external reasons it fails, then he's going all the way to the top IMHO. [Post edited 25 Sep 2023 13:53]
