Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10

Anybody else think the comment about NML quite interesting i.e. What's the key to his current good form? Could it be the end of season is fast approaching and he is in the 'shop window'

I thought the same when he says you should ask NML but then it seems NML was on post match duty as well interview now on daleplayer.

Would say the difference regarding JB is hilly could see the footballer and identified his best position, NML can be brilliant and a match winner but can go missing for long periods....except when motivated??

There's not many better players on their day at this level. Obviously every one would love it if he could do it week in week out - and with his pace and finishing he'd be a Premier League player if he could. He's had injury/fitness troubles and motivation problems in the past and it's a real shame that we've not seen more from him. He's had these spells over his time with us , the end of last season he was brilliant and he's been great v bury. He's certainly an enigma and a hugely talented footballer - hopefully we can offer him a deal and get him to sign - there's no doubt he will have better offers elsewhere now with his current form.

If we can get NML to sign for next season that would encourage a fair few to get on the season ticket deal..

He is exactly the type of player people want to see.

He's been being a league one footballer.. he's going to be inconsistent, hence why he's a league one footballer.

Mendez laing over the last 2 seasons has been good enough for me and games like saturday are a pleasure to watch.

If he played consistently like saturday every week, he'd be at a top half of the championship club, but he cant.

Henderson is often regarded by some as our best ever player, yet he's hardly dazzling every game is he? Give the lad a break ffs.

Wasted post lad

You've said nothing I don't already know better than you

It's not his consistent ability I've questioned but his determination, which was there for all to see on Saturday - as others have said, it's"shop window" time. Even Hilly commented on it in his post-match interview

How about you give yourself a break and stop acting like you've got a pathetic personal grudge that you can't shake off - ffs

Take a look at mendez laings career at rochdale, his form is patchy and he has runs of games where he disappears, this is one of his good patches..

You suggesting its because its the end of the season and wants to put himself in the shop window is merely speculation.

Hopefully he wants to impress Hilly enough to get an improved offer.

NML on fire for 46 games would be a joy to behold.

Regrettably we get hits and misses but he is another that is quickly becoming a very very good player.

He is out of contract June 30th isn't he?

That's the bum note...

I've had a damned good look at his time at Dale. Given his ability, if his attitude had been right he'd have been starting far more consistently, but the manager wasn't prepared to risk him more often than not

It's not "my" suggestion either; many others have made similar points but AGAIN you take it up with me

Read the last bit of my previous post again, and think about that

To be fair I think it's the attitude in the second line of your post that infuriates many people on this board.

What makes you know something 'better' than Sweetcorn?

It's a fair question, but in answering it you might take into consideration the fact that there are plenty of people who post on here who I wouldn't presume to know 'better than' and respond to them accordingly

I'm not an egalitarian though, so whilst it might irritate the hell out of you, sweetcorn and some others, you'll just have to live with it; the world's full of inequality and the generation being taught that everyone's point of view is equally valid on all subjects are bound to react badly when they find it isn't

I take that fact into consideration. So maybe this time you could actually answer the question?

What makes you know something 'better' than a fellow fan who pays to watch the same game as you? Regardless of whether you're an egalitarian or not, what actually makes you know something 'better' than him?

Depends whether you're looking to get into a philosophical discussion about what "knowing" means - which I'm happy to do - or whether you'd take the following points into consideration first:

1. The manager himself has indicated he's a bit perplexed about NML's resurgent form at this particular juncture in the season and in his contract; when asked about it, he suggested the player might want to explain that

2. I've been dealing with situations for three decades which involve people's motivation at work

3. By sweetcorn's own admission, he's not getting to games regularly and may have missed some of NML's non-performances, which haven't been about ability so much as just not getting stuck in

4. I rate NML's ability and have therefore followed his performances closely, so when sweetcorn suggests I should look at how he's progressed or not, I'm entitled to say I have done without being prompted to so do

So, which is it to be? The philosophical discussion, or a facts-based analysis? I'll accept either, but first let me ask you: what makes you think I wouldn't have a better idea about NML than someone with less experience and/or analytic ability?

OR there is a third option, which is that i'm an arrogant tw@t, which you just might have to learn to live with!

Well I had no idea that Sweetcorn had been unable to attend as many matches of late. A simple explanation of that point would've sufficed, but as usual you felt the need to illustrate your point by attempting to belittle somebody else on the thread. As for your first point, I really don't see how that relates to your knowledge of the NML situation and not Sweetcorn's knowledge.

But fair enough, if you get to more games than Sweetcorn then 100% you are likely to know better than him of course.

I will say this though - more experience doesn't necessarily count for everything. Brian Barry-Murphy is the most experienced member of our playing squad but I don't expect him to be starting any time soon.

I think you'll find sweetcorn isn't shy in the belittling stakes, and I've kindly advised him to try it on with someone else because he's getting nowhere with me

Now that should suffice

I've missed about 3 games this season, on a tuesday night. So i've hardly missed streams of games.

How do you know him not playing games has anything to do with trust. Hill rotates the players quite a lot. When davies was on the bench for a spell did keith not trust him?

I think it might depend on who is at fullback too. With a dependable FB, NML is more able to concentrate on attacking and does not have to think too much about defensive duties.
