....Gordon would be well known to many Dale fans and was a frequent spectator at Spotland over many years...

There is a distinct shortage of good, uplifting news at the moment. There seems to be a never-ending conveyor of bad news.

Up the Dale - NOT for sale!

There was an article in the latics v dale programme st the end of the season about him giving up the mike after many years to take on administrative duties full time.

I thought then that he was the type of bloke that clubs like ours depend on for their stability and existence.

I didnt know him personally but obviously he was a fan first who also became an employee.

Condloences to his family, friends and all associated with Latics

I remember Gordon from his days at Dale and also when he umpired in the Central Lancs League . I remember appealing for a caught behind when the batter took the cover off the ball Gordon didn't give him out I then went and stood at square leg and mentioned to Gordon that the batter was laughing and couldn't believe you didn't give it he said appeal again in the next over I did and the batter got sent back to the pavilion Great Bloke and condolences to the family.

I never knew the man but people like that are the life blood of all clubs at this level.
My condolences to his family.

I can only echo the comments on this thread.

I had many dealings with Gordon - mainly via email - over the last few years when Dale and Oldham were in the same division and I always found him to be organised, efficient, helpful and particularly friendly.

His passing is a great loss to Oldham and to our type of club in particular.

RIP Gordon

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

I spoke to Gordon recently at the game at Boundary Park. He always seemed to have a smile on his face and was passionate about Oldham Athletic. He'll be a very sad loss to the club. RIP

Sad news knew Big Gordon from CLL cricket when he managed Castleton Moor U18 and from standing in the Sandy with him, top bloke.

Absolutely gutted by this news . I went to school with big Gordon,we were in the same class throughout senior school. As young lads we stood in the sandy together and watched them home and away. R.I.P. Gordy hope Dale and Latics do you proud.
You were a top man.
