Really feel for the lad. Deserves better. Hardly played, constantly substituted, regularly left out of the match-day squad, unfairly criticised (and stigmatised) by the manager - for daring to play a forward pass or take on players. And now given a free. Keith Hill has often got it (very) right with young players but I fear he may have crushed the life and exuberance out of this particular chap. I hope not. He was great fun, a joy to watch. We'll miss him.

I always thought Hery would be our next big sell on. It was clear he had the class that set him apart from a lot of players in L1, I always loved watching him play, he excited the crowd, but it rapidly became clear that Hill wanted more from him, tried to change his game and as a result ruined him imo, he was a shadow of the player he was. I hope he goes somewhere and becomes a star, i think this could be one that Hill regrets letting go, best of luck Bastien, merci.
Life is a game of fate.

Totally agree (could also apply to Joel Logan?). As other threads have said, Hill appears to be feeling the pressure of our (relative) struggle to handle the top teams last season and to be seeking a more cautious approach where not losing becomes more important than 'no fear' attacking. I suppose as a manager looking to overcome the 2nd Season syndrome danger it makes sense, but for me it is exactly that brand of football which makes me buy that season ticket. The joy of a Hery spin and drive through an opposition's midfield was worth the ticket price alone; sad it died out (got snuffed out?). Bon courage Bastien.
Hery though under performed this season, the odd decent cameo performance from the bench but disappointing when starting.
Was doing ok until he was dropped for 'fit again' Lund against Barnsley. Started lots of games earlier in the Season and was playing superb and we were winning. Was always the 1st one subbed usually round the hour mark. That has got to drain your confidence.

Never really took to Bastien. Good player on the ball but always struck me as one of those players you certainly wouldn't want in a scrappy game or a battle.
His decision making was awful and he gives the ball away in really stupid areas. Always got the feeling Hilly didn't rate him and that's been obvious from about January onwards with everybody else getting in ahead of him.
No loss to us really, hope it works out well for him elsewhere.
If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor

Have to disagree about not the sort of player wanted in a scrappy game. He came into the side back end of last season when we were (quite frankly) scrapping for the points needed to cross the finishing line - and made all the difference by putting our midfield on the front foot. At that point, and early this season, he was being given a platform by Hilly and using it to very good effect.
Then it all changed. Dropped for the Barnsley fixture to accommodate a half-fit Lund, we lost out in a scrappy game where he was previously making the difference. We never got going in midfield and they throttled us after taking the lead.
Never got a fair crack of the whip after that, and when he did start it was in a deeper role with no defensive midfielder. That was a bit like putting Gazza in front of the back four.
Best wishes Bastien, and hope you don't become another cast-off who comes back to haunt us.
He has the potential to be a good player. He is skillful and can entertain which is why many took a shine to him. I thought he impressed in preseason and was really going to kick on, but he hasn't. The odd fancy trick and pass was far outwayed by poor decision making, with and without the ball for much of the rest of the time. I feel the barrier to his success is himself. It is often the same with young players who show a bit of creative talent, their decision making lets them down. Logan is the same. He is quick and works hard but his end product has often been lacking. To make the next step it is not about driving out the creativity or stoping them taking people on, it is coupling those talents with game awareness.
Look at Jamie Allen. When he plays he invariably makes the right decision. He may not have the flamboyance of Hery but he is a much more effective player as he uses the ball better. Off the ball his movement and work rate are much better as well.

Whoever it is was here before Bastien came to the club, 1st ever post was after the fcum debacle. Then posted when Eyre was here in 2011. Then didn't post again till October 2014! Seems an admirer of young Bastien looking at previous posts.
