Another sporting legend passes away 09:51 - Dec 13 with 1046 viewselectricblue

Ex jockey Walter Swindburn jr passed away aged only 55....
Walter Swindburn will always be connected to that legend of a horse Shergar which turned the Derby into a stroll and winning by a country mile never out of 1st gear...
Walter Swindburn was only 19 at the time..
Many happy times watching walter and meeting him and I won a few quid over the years due to his jockeymanship.

RIP walter you where a true legend.....

My all time favourite Dale player Mr Lyndon Symmonds

Winning the Derby on board Shergar would've been a dream ride for any jockey, but I disagree with you about the wonderhorse not getting out of 1st gear

The highlight of the race was just as the field rounded Tattenham Corner into the long home straight, Swinburn gave Shergar the merest push - he powered through in thrilling style to leave the rest of a top class field trailing in his wake, before cantering the final furlong. It was victory by a record 10 lengths but could've been much, much more

Swinburn may well have thought at that moment "I'll die happy"

RIP

Well worth a watch, and worth remembering the trailing field included the very best horses of that 3yo generation

Great clip...

I remember having a tenner on it at 6/4 ( a lot back then ) and was so happy to win £15 plus my ten pounds back of course.

RIP WS.
