Excellent news this. Hopefully it's headlines like this that will entice even more top players into our system and form a circle of success.
I was wondering earlier what the process was to apply for category 2 status and what the benefits/costs of this would be. No idea how it all works really!
All credit to the club for this achievement. It’s great that a club is pushing youth team talent not only from a business sense but a footballing one too.

Same, you see us getting all this recognition but we're still tier 3. You would think we'd be eligible to move up but I don't know the how it works. Maybe you need a permanent training ground or something. Would be great to work towards moving up the tiers I think the work the club does in youth development definitely higher up the ladder.

Does it matter what tier we are?
Genuine question coz I have no idea how it works but ultimately the success or otherwise of any academy can be measured by the players it produces that go on to bigger and better things. In that respect we've done very very well. So as many others have said well done to all concerned.

We have a quality production line of talent, which means we don't miss a beat when regular 1st teamers go down or are suspended, we can afford to let players progress their careers without experiencing major setbacks and we can benefit financially when they do both at the time and from later windfalls.
That creates a virtuous circle of the club being attractive to talented youth emerging at an even younger age and gives the club the big selling point of a proven track record of player development and success. It's fantastic to see a well run club doing things right at all levels and more with each passing day, embracing the concept that sometimes, you have to spend money to make money.
One downside to all this success which I was contemplating, was the attractiveness of the current set up to a potential investor. I can't imagine for a second we are for sale and nor am I trying to rumour-monger, but as others have pointed out, the way we operate is rapidly becoming the envy of the North West, outside the upper reaches of football.

This is proof, if ever proof were needed, that Keith Hill hasn't simply built a team here, he has built a whole club and a legacy that is the envy of almost every club outside the Championship, (and probably some in it).
'Quite remarkable', as the late David Coleman would have said.

When you consider Brass has actually given younger players a chance whereas his predecessor paid lip service to it, it makes you wonder how far apart Hill and Flitcroft are now in their football philosophies.

I think Brass has been told to play them so they can try and flog them. I presume Flicker has told Hilly a few tales about the goings on at gigg.
Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10

If my reading between the lines in Hilly's interview is right, Hill's actually critical of Brass for introducing them too early. In fairness to Flicker it was under him that Bury saw a significant improvement of their youth system and recruitment.

It was actually previous to Flitcroft getting involved at Bury that their youth system improved. They picked up a lot of good staff in both coaching and scouting from Burnley as they had a bit of a mass exodus due to politics at Burnley.
