Lormor Is Swansea Target

Home > Story Index >Lormor is Swansea Target

Sources away from the management team tell us that the trial game will go ahead on Wednesday amid speculation that a number of players attending will be on that infamous wish list of Nick Cusack. Players are not at a premium this time around with over a thousand being released by clubs throughout the UK due topanic over the ITV Sport money not being available for up to two years, and no deal signed to cover Nationwide league games as yet for 2002 / 2003.
One of those players attending is 32 year old Tony Lormer, once of Chesterfield the big striker is on a free and available to Cusack if he fits the bill. Another is Plymouth Argylemidfielder Steve Guinan who has made it known he wants to sign for The Swans. Nick Cusack is looking to sign a team of experienced players to compensate for the many Swans players expected to leave the club after next Mondays FA Premier Cup Final game with Cardiff City at Ninian Park ( KO 6.50 PM ) Swansea City are now reporting 25 coaches full of Swans fans travelling to the game with only three days left for supporters to book their seats. Sales of tickets at Ninian Park are reported to be " Very slow " Only 31 tickets had been sold up to the weekend, however the club expect approximately three thousand Cardiff City supporters to attend the game on Monday.
Other players available and who will interest Cusack are John Hodge now on a free transfer from Northampton Town. James Thomas who hasnow left Bristol Rovers, the Swansea born striker is extremely interested in a move to Swansea. However a club spokesperson tells us " If James wants to play for Swansea he has to contact us, it's no good talking about it, we have trials arranged for Nick to see players and James Thomas if he wants to be a Swans player should make contact with us, he is a free agent so it's no problem "
From this summer there will be a threshold contract available to players, and those not wishing to play for sensible money will not feature in any Swansea team next season.
Players are also expected to play from Shrewsbury Town where Greg Rioch is now on a free transfer and expected to attend, along with three players from Sheffield Wednesday. The slow process of rebuilding after a miserable end to the season will start this week, and Cusack will havemore information on who is staying and who can leave by the end of next week. He is looking to build a side with experience who can " frighten " the opposition, much in the same way that Swansea were frightened last season.
This is a much better sign than we have had in recent years with tall tales from the manager regards signings when Swansea were promoted two seasons ago to division two. The failure to even sign one pro player that year rubber stamped a Swansea return to division three. This time around there is a youthful desire to manage and be successful, and starting Wednesday we hope that Nick Cusack gets all the support he needs from the board room.
So the Swansea rebuilding plan can get underway.
