Not a bad shout
this one, and whilst they didn't get the top spot that we'd
tipped them for, they weren't a million miles away. It was a
very good season for the Posh. Whilst there are some who may
feel that even coming second, they under achieved given the
brass that they've forked over the past few months, you have to
accept that promotion is not to be sniffed at - who are we to
argue with that? Fergie's inexperience may have cost them at
times, and the jury's still out on whether he's done a decent
job there or whether you couldn't fail with that much brass, but
the fact is that he's led the Posh up in his first full season.

When it came to
predicting Wycombe's season, I was in two minds. On the one
hand, they had all the ingredients for a successful season, and
it was hard to see them not making it. However, there was this
nagging doubt that they are Wycombe and year upon year, they
seem to have all the talent in the world, and then they just
under achieve. Of course, they may well end up joining MK, Posh
and Hereford in playing League One football next season, but
it's certainly an under achievement.

As it has been for
Darlington too. I was in two minds whether to tip Darlington to
win the whole division. They seem to have quality throughout
their entire squad, and a manager. We signalled Pawel Abbott as
being their key Summer signing, and its not really worked out
for him up there so far, with one thing or another, including
injury. He could score goals for fun at this level, and they'd
have been banking on him managing that but he's got just nine
goals - though his goal per games ratio is more than good
enough.

If it wasn't for
Dale, then we might just have got this prediction a lot closer
than it was. For you can blame all of Shrewsbury's problems over
this season as being down to that 4-3 victory of our's at their
new stadium. It knocked the stuffing out of their season, and
I'm not sure they've recovered yet. I don't mean the result is
still playing on their minds, but we kick started their downward
spiral. I'd go as far as saying that Shrewsbury have been the
biggest over achievers in the division this season.

What can
we say? We just know our club too well, getting our own
prediction absolutely spot on. We'll admit we weren't confident
all season that we'd end up in this place, and there was a time
it was looking like 5th might have under-estimating our own
efforts for the season. Let it be said however, that had we been
told in advance that we'd have played the first few months with
the entire defence our injured, and we'd have to make do without
Murray and Dagnall for the majority of the season, then I think
I'd have been waving the white flag and predicted a no nonsense,
but hopeful 12th place. Goes a long way to appreciating exactly
what we have achieved this season.

Happy to accept
that we got this one not far wrong. In fact, had it not been for
our resting of first team players for our final home game (and
subsequent ensuring our Dale prediction was spot on), we'd have
been even closer with this one. We reckoned on a good season for
County and so its proved to be. We had reservations about the
lack of goals up front, and Elding's departure didn't help, but
it's not held them back and Gannon has yet again done a great
job at Stockport. I know he's not Mr Popular around the
division, but you cannot fault the job he's done at County.

The only real
surprise that we had about this prediction is that we came as
close as we did. For much of this season, the Bantams were
nothing but also rans. They may have played well at Spotland but
they were closer to relegation than to the Play Offs for much of
the season despite their ridiculous Wembley songs. So to finish
10th will at least have stopped the rot, and they must just look
back at the decision to stick with McCall as being a major
turning point in their history, as undoubtedly they'll be up
there challenging next year.

We put this
prediction down to having a manager who believes his own press,
and a side which woefully underachieved the year before, and had
them down as the perfect match to keep the Dons in midtable. It
didn't help that Ince thought the way to strengthen was to bring
in half the Macc side which had narrowily avoided relegation.
But clearly Ince, and his compadre Ray Mathias, knew what they
were doing and those Macc players proved to be the difference.
The Dons looked a class above at times this season, and you
can't do much better than getting two trophies in the cabinet by
the end of your first season in charge. Well done Ince!

Have always been
an admirer of Bobby Williamson, so expected a much better fist
of things from the border side this time round. But there's that
spectre of Stephen Vaughan hovering over the side which will
always keep them down at the bottom, and this season was to be
no exception. I think it's pretty safe to say that this highly
likely that this will be their last season of avoiding
relegation.

Given that
Chesterfield did better than we actually tipped them to do, its
somewhat surprising the amount of flack getting chucked about
down there over this season just gone. Given their past history
from this division (in terms of experience not past crimes),
they shouldn't have been the relegated side with delusions of
grandeur, expecting an immediate return to League One. I guess
having one of the classiest strikers in the division who scored
goals regularly and still falling short must contribute towards
those grumbles tho.

Another of my big
mistakes for the season. I really should have known better than
to start believing their pre-season ramblings about how they're
going to push for a Play Off place. They're as much a bottom
four side now as we were back in the 80's, and having a history
which spreads over 874 chapters will never, ever change it. If
we're still here next season, then I'm sticking them back down
as relegation favourites.

I made this
mistake last season with Torquay. Base my prediction of the
feelgood factor of surviving relegation thanks to a late, great
run of form which I reckon was going to continue into the new
season. Was wrong. By a long way. We raised question marks over
their fledgling manager, but even with him dispensed, it was
still all aboard the HMS Blue Square.
