We have had some very decent ones over many years but many many dreadful exponents of the art of keeping.

Parkes, Seaman and Stejskal all have been outstanding players.

Some have had great seasons such as Smithies, Dieng, Kenny, Burridge to name a few and some that went on elsewhere to top careers afterward - Chris Woods seem to remember having a short spell here.

But we have a knack of producing a high number of Calamity James keepers who excel in the downright crazy moments - Tony Roberts being the king of all in this.

Is it such a hard position to find with all this data available worldwide nowadays ??

Kasey Keller was picked up by Leicester from Millwall at about the same time as we were wasting £750k on Sommer for about the same fee. We'd even come up against Keller the season before in the FA Cup so Wilkins must have known about him.

Any mention of Kasey Keller immediately reminds me of one of my strongest footballing memories. It’s not everyday you see a teams goalkeeper run past you cupping his wedding tackle in his hands after he’d been set upon and his entire kit ripped off him by Millwall fans at the final whistle of Millwall!s last match at the old Den.

Remember we won 4-0 on my only ever visit to Field Mill ( Mansfield Town) and Simon Royce was named mom.

I was there as well, Royce made all the difference, how Mansfield never scored, well,
the score could have been 6-4 in Mansfields favour.
Never ever been to such a one sided game when we have come out winners by such a large margin.
I doubt that has happened many time when a side wins 4-0 and their goalkeeper is man of the match, incredible performance.

Met a lady at a neighbour’s funeral a few years ago who said her Dad once played in goal for QPR. I said, ‘That’s interesting, would I have heard of him?’ She said his name was Pat Welton and I had to confess that I wasn’t familiar with him. A bit of googling later, I discovered that he’d played three games for the R’s in the 1958/59 season. I appreciate it’s a bit of a long shot, but does anyone have any memories/info about Pat?
