We’ve only just got over a couple of seasons where we were VERY close to going down. A cheeky flirt with the play offs but just falling short would be great this season, but that’ll do for now. Fck going up. It’ll be horrible. Consolidate over the next 2-3 seasons. Be prepared to lose a couple of players in that time - this is why we bought them young & cheap - but build it slowly.
I mentioned that game a few months ago on here. They were top of the league with not very many games left and once they went one up, really took the p… with their time-wasting - I can still see Bowen pretending to not know where to take a throw from even now- and we were going absolutely mental. Falco’s equaliser was from a Paul Parker cross (I said it was Bard in my previous recollection but I’ve seen it since) and whilst it wasn’t a scramble as mentioned above, it was a bloody good header, but he was climbing all over their defender but there would have been a riot if it has been disallowed. Not quite revenge for 76 as they fell away quite badly in the end, but it felt like it at the time.
(apologies to Modfather, I just saw you did the same joke. Still, if I’ve learned anything in this life, it’s never pass up on the opportunity to quote from Life of Brian or Spinal Tap).
I bought a lot of brandy when I was courtin Sandy Took 8 to make her randy an all I had was shandy.
I was just about to post that when I saw yours. That last line gets me every time. Can’t listen to that song without laughing. Bloody genius is what it is.
The second goal was just …. bizarre. No attacker, defender or (but of course) Nardi went anywhere near it in the air, it hits his foot (about the most subtle touch of his all game) and went in. The ref just stood there for a while and seemed to just think, “oh, it’s gone in, better trot back to the centre circle, then”.
Not seen it since because I can’t bring myself to watch it so that might not be entirely accurate!
A bloody cowardly performance. Imagine what was going through their players minds when we equalised so quickly? I know their fans feared the worst because one of them told me after. So what did we do? We surrendered. But it’s ok, Julien says we had a good week overall. Just because we won the last two, you can expect them to try to win the third.
I moved to Norfolk in the summer and was in the Murderers (officially The Gardeners Arms) a couple of weeks ago. It’s a safe bet. Decent beer, as long as you don’t mind wall to wall tellys showing a match of some sort, which kind of ruined it a bit for me - couldn’t escape it anywhere at all - but I’m meeting a Norwich mate there after the game.
Sorry to say I’ve not been here long enough to recommend anywhere else with any confidence. I’m going to try The Kings Arms pre-game, but that’s mainly because I life south of the city and I’m getting a lift in.
Looking forward to being with a load of Rangers tomorrow!
Had a look through the last couple of pages. Lots of expectant “should be in the top 3” comments while only one dared to mention the impending points deduction.
Marti did well to get that job but it did seem to be an odd appointment on their part. I just assumed they expected to get docked a dozen points and saw the miracles he performed with us in keeping us up.
Ah, this is awful. He’d only just announced a speaking tour and there must have been 100 venues on the list. I always remember buying the first album - just came out of a successful job interview, happy as Larry, so I popped into the record shop there and bought The Stones Roses, (because the NME told me to, hadn’t heard them before) and Doolittle (Pixies). Saw them post-Reni in Brighton, around 95, IIRC. Brown had a bad night but Mani and John Squire were just great to watch. Only a week older than me - and John Squire. One of those deaths that hits a bit harder, this one, bless him.
Ha, what a co-incidence. Foyles War is our midweek-while having our tea programme of choice atm.
As you say, gentle stuff but very entertaining and because it’s a few years old now, there’s quite a few “oh, look who that is!” moments in it - not only the lovely Rosamund but Lily James was in an early episode. Even Danny Dire 🤣
Check out “Brian Pern” if you can - Michael Kitchen is just great as his crafty scheming manager.
I’m a bit late on this one but I’ve just got into Sneaky Pete (Netflix).
A confidence trickster comes out of Prison and, learning his old debts weren’t cleared after all, decides to take the persona of someone else in the jail, whose family haven’t heard of in 20 years.
Created by and starring Bryan Cranston. Can’t say I’d heard of Giovanni Ribisi who plays “Pete” before but he’s very good. Margot Nightingale, who is great in several shows and also from The Americans, Alison Wright. Quite a few from Justified in it as well.
There’s an episode where Frasier goes into the “Bridish” ex-pat bar the Daphne frequents and the whole place is full of those awful attempts at London/Cockney that sound more like Aussie.
Just checked if it was the one where we lost 0-1 to a John Duncan goal and it was. I went to that with two Rangers and one Spurs mate from school.
They were all over the loft so I had my Rangers scarf tucked away in my Parka pocket. At HT the bstrds were looking for Rangers and they “searched” my mate, pulled out his Nice One Cyril scarf and assumed we were all Tottenham.
Fcking bullies were at least 18 and we were just 11 year olds.
So, Yes. Happy memories of that day 50 years ago 😂
