There's some new insight on the Man City case from Kieran Maguire, here:
https://www.manchestereveningn

He's speculating, but the points deduction, if there is one, could be 40-60, or more, points.

That "if" is big enough to be visible from space, though, in my view.

He's certainly been fine recently, but we all know what that usually means.... .

Thanks for the piece.

"If he was good enough he would not be sent out on loan".

The buying, selling and loaning of players is not just about the player's ability, though. There are other factors, like balancing the books, the whims of the current manager/coach and/or the board, the player's own wishes...

A problem with managing the players' fitness such that they are in peak condition later in the season is that in the earlier games, a fitness delta may heavily affect a player's performances and be mistaken for a lack of ability, with the result that the player gets fewer, if any, chances later in the season, when they hit peak fitness.

"I doubt all these extra heavy EVs are helping much".

The physics actually reveals that it's HGVs which do the real damage:

"Engineers measure road damage using something called the “fourth power law“—a fancy way of saying damage increases exponentially with weight, but only becomes significant when you’re talking about truly heavy vehicles. Your Prius-to-EV upgrade? Barely a blip on the infrastructure radar.

What Actually Damages Roads: The Physics vs. Perception

Picture this: you’re arguing about who ate the last slice of pizza while an entire buffet sits untouched in the next room. That’s essentially the EV weight debate when trucks are involved.

“Load-related damage to pavement and bridges is caused almost exclusively by heavy trucks,” explains Mark Gottlieb, a civil engineer who studies infrastructure wear. “The contribution from autos and light trucks is insignificant. It makes no difference if they are EV or internal combustion.”

The numbers are staggering: a single 80,000-pound semitruck causes roughly 2,500 times more road damage than your 4,000-pound sedan. Academic studies suggest complete EV adoption could increase passenger vehicle road wear by 20-40%, but that’s still drops in an ocean compared to commercial truck damage. Small electric cars make what researchers call “a negligible contribution” to overall infrastructure deterioration".

Do bear in mind also that some non-electric SUVs and 4x4s weigh a hell of a lot; a Range Rover weighs two and a half tonnes, whereas a Tesla Model Y weighs two tonnes.

For what do you think the club uses that big hour glass behind our new signing?

Is it to help ready the physios for the first injury on a match day?

Getting back to the matter in hand, this sounds like good news.

Why on earth would a player deliberately let themselves go when, as an alternative, straining every sinew in order to perform well in the English second tier could attract the attention of top half Championship or even lower half Premiership clubs?

If Frey were of the mercenary type, the alternative strategy would be far more lucrative, surely?

Doesn't Nourry have a major say in player recruitment and sales?

I honestly thought he did.

Thanks, as ever, for the report, grim read that it is.

I do wonder if the decisions about substitutions are not made by JS alone. Perhaps Williams has a big say in them.

I also believe that as a club, we are developing a morbid fear of the obvious, to wit:
- We lack quality central midfielders. The much coveted Edwards can play there, but he is yet to feature at all.
- We're not exactly awash with quality strikers at the moment. Then, we sign Obikwu. Why not put him on the bench and give him 20 minutes or so?

Putting away chances is a basic skill in this game, especially when, like us, you rarely create a hatful of chances. For years, we have been profligate in front of goal and have been punished by more clinical teams time and time again. Cardiff three shots, QPR twenty, we lose 3-0, for example. When, if ever, is this going to be addressed? Or is it beneath our coaches and players?

We seem to be constantly overthinking things and neglecting the basics. Why? Grrrr
