Both Robald and Eom had shots on target yesterday and both have both scored this season with us getting the ball forward quicker into dangerous areas of the pitch hopefully they can make more well thought out play instead of panicking with their play and final balls.
There is a lot to be said for wingers playing balls into space in the box and expecting their team mates to realise and react to where those spaces appear or anticipate the crosses working with others to pull defenders about.
Galbraith ball was a wicked ball in but not anticipated or expected to get through their defence.

He was a lot stronger on the ball yesterday think Matos has tried to stop the trying to buy free kicks asking players to stand up for themselves in the challenges they make, especially as refs seem to be reluctant to give even the most obvious cynical fouls committed against us.

Idah , looks slow and clueless
at 08:11 10 Dec 2025

Different parts of Vipotnik's game seem to be improving as the season progresses, his challenges in the air are far more competitive and allow us to fight for the ball higher up the pitch. Last night we saw him having balls into feet back to goal playing first times ball into spaces in behind the fullbacks that any player let alone a winger would gladly run onto the switch of play turning defences and certainly takes the pressure off our defence and creating space in theirs. What little we saw of Kuharevich he played similar types of balls classic centre forward play. Vipotnik now looks a stronger unit on the ball attracting two or three players to crowd him out but get support around him quick enough and our goal threat will increase even further.

Idah has areas of his game he needs to work on but if we can get supporting players around him I can see him improving and causing problems up top.

Ronald drops deep again and does a job as we go five at the back to hold onto the lead to make it two wins in a row.
Throw ins going down the line to keep pressure off us and keep us further up the pitch. Makes you think we should be doing more often as an alternative instead of going backward to invite pressure.
They played five players high up the pitch which many teams have done successfully but we block the paths to their two inside forwards got tight to their wingers and looked a stronger defensive unit. They made it easier to cope with them by only using their trouble some winger as their preferred path to attack as previously mentioned, Galbraith outstanding again shutting the winger down.

Cullen's space for his goal actually came from an over hit pass to Yalcouye which caught their defence out of position, the point should be let's have more balls into feet higher up the pitch.gettimg the ball anywhere near the box with runners can cause chaos.
People complain about Ronald's crossing of the ball but the pull back he made we had all three players on the back post but no-one pull off the defenders and yet for Eom's early cross three waiting deep and no-one on the back post.

Getting the ball forward quickly to feet is opening teams up with the ball over the top or in the channels think we will see better timed runs soon effort if we continue to use alternative tactics , would like to see as we compete aerially to long kicks we get players around our players challenging for the ball.nice to see Vipotnik using a one touch pass with his back to goal to space in behind defenders for our other forwards moving forward to come onto.
Nice strike by Cullen, nice to see us not throwing leads away and glad to have picked up six points.

We saw against Oxford that we kept an attacking threat up top well into the latter part of the second half making hard for them to gain any momentum which even with a couple of iffy moments we looked comfortable in defending against their attacks, a step up in performance from WBA game?
The crowd seem to appreciate the performance and showed it during the game much better atmosphere in the ground.
Long may it continue.

Surely tickets should be made available for the most desirable seats of the stadium, I know we all have our own idea of what we would prefer but for the Cup and friendlies and non season ticket holders , there comes a point where a lack of preferred seats would put people off, is a timely opening of newly available section employed, curious to know if they are leaving it too late in opening them?

We have seen our own players having to change footwear because they have been slipping all over the place you would think they would know what to expect of their home pitch?

People seem to forget that these are good players they haven't progress to where they are by chance, how a team fits together is rather hit and miss, confidence ebbs away from players and manager, things disrupt the team sometimes to the good and sometimes badly, we haven't had a settled midfield all season.
We can give our opinion but often there are things out of our range of knowledge, often two sides to ever persons view point be it spectator, player, manager and owners.
Really thought we dealt well with what Oxford could throw at us but Portsmouth is another challenge to hopefully to build on.

Martin had Fulton out in the cold for so long until he realised that he needed him. Would it really have made sense to let him go this summer after by the end of the season we had lost Grimes, Allen, O'Brien, Darling and Naughton's experience from the team.
Let us remember Grimes moved on, Allen returned after moving on and struggled fitness wise, O'Brien used us as a means to recover his place in a starting eleven and Naughton came here after losing his place in the Tottenham team and strugled for pace, Darling had also gained a settled place in the team as well but like Allen in the past moved on, we have found it very hard to keep that settled team a mix of youth, quality and experience, it is not right yet. The last few games Eom seems to be getting back to his best after losing his way, Widell is yet to find a consisted 90 minutes, Stamenic has been hit by a situation that has obviously had an affect but had he settled in yet anyway. Yalcouye was in and out of the team, the sending off was not unexpected as a couple of times a second yellow would have been justified. Franco does seem to offer us a level of experience now and Galbraith is coming on in leaps and bounds.
I think all of us would want Galbraith in the midfield but getting the right formation there has been our problem.
Is Fulton now surplus to requirements now and can we afford a player who cannot last 90 minutes maybe not but can we see the combination of the others being strong enough over 90 minutes to dispense with him yet? If Casey stays until the end of the season then I think we can let Fulton go given the role Fulton now seems to be employed in.

Had been an advocate of fullbacks giving wingers space it allows the wingers room to come short drag the fullback forward to create space in behind them we have seen forwards do this so many times then peel off for the quick ball in behind the defensive but our forward passes are in reaction to those peeling run rather than anticipating them but the time we have seen the runs and delivered the ball our forwards have got themselves offside through no fault of their own.

Think we will see a lot more of Casey happy to have the dominance of Cabango and Burgess in the air, it is on the ground their lack of mobility seems to be a problem, Key was used last year in behind the two centre backs instead of Naughton but for all his pace he is not confident under the high ball or was he too confident and gets caught on the ball, Casey does seem to read the situation well except the odd youthful mistake.

It does seem as if we are relying on Burgess to ensure dominant in the box but invariably it can lead to him and Cabango going for the same ball, when Vigouroux has come for the ball it has relieved the pressure on us in an instant rather than having the chaos of the poorly cleared ball ping ponging around our area. The same thing happened at times with Darling and Cabango To me a timely call by a player going for a ball can enable players around them to get themselves into good positions to cover or look to recieve the ball enabling us to get forward quicker in control of the ball or stop opposition's attacks.

Think his movement to find space in his intial appearances were good but has seem to have changed, I did mention in previous post about his rash rushed clearances into no man's land that just gave possession away. This next statement may seem a bit of a stretch but I liken him to Fer I want to see him with the ball at his feet and pushing forward in the middle of the park further up the pitch, yes he offers a bit of height in the middle of the park but I don't want to see him being forced into a solely defence role as we have seen Fulton become a scapegoat for all that ailed a poorly set up team over many years.
As a team we need different types of players being used in the best ways to suit their skills for the benefit of the team getting the partnerships right in all areas of the pitch to be able to adapt to situations as needed.

But so have others in the same games, bad team set up, dropping off of intensity, silly mistakes, games which we seem to have the upper hand snowball out of control. Don't think Stamenic is comfortable hanging deep.having quick nippy players pushing forward on him making him turn, even yesterday he just seemed to get in Cabango and Burgess way as they attacked the aerial ball but once the ball is at his feet he has a range of options available to get us on the front foot maybe needs a couple of dogs around him to get him in possession of the ball and then offer him options tieing in players with their movement to give him a bit of time and space on the ball.

He got the praise from the fans in the ground he deserved for his performance from the moment he stepped off the pitch in front of the East stand when substituted until he reached the dugout.
He seems to be playing for place in the team and has adapted well to what is being asked of him, he now has more Championship experience than some of our younger players and that is telling in getting us further up the pitch quicker, starting to turn defenders around and pushing them deeper there is a good partnership with Tymon which needs a little more fine tuning with the help of forwards around him , midfield support and a better defensive mindset.
Team game and the right partnerships all over the pitch is vital, Sheehan struggled to find that stable team set up that he did last season lots of new inexperienced players were all vying for places have some of those players now had time to develop.
For me the partnership on the right between Ronald and Key just hasn't worked and sometimes injuries a or sicknesses are a godsend for a manager trying to find the right team selection.

Did that first half go very much like the West Brom game, yes we scored at different times during the half but we kept our shape and remained defensively sound dealing with any threat that Oxford managed to create as would be expected in any game of football when teams look and need to attack.

How many times have we become shapeless run ragged making mistakes in bad areas of the pitch yes we still made them and Oxford weren't able to capitalise a lot of time being our own worse enemy.

I would say that was Vipotnik's best game at leading the line in many ways if we are going to play long high balls up to our forwards then they have to be able to compete and make defenders life differcult not give them time to play cushioned headers to feet to which Vipotnik has struggled to do, I think we were all surprised at seeing Inoussa being asked to play the centre forward role when he came on but he can challenge in the aerial, is fast and strong enough to enough to hold off defenders and pacy enough to get into space but as Eom tired he was needed out wide and Idah came on but the point is we kept a forward threat which the supported in the midfield but we kept our shape as a team.

There were occasions defensively where our clearances were poor almost amateur league stuff ball into no man's land or into row z and for all his good work Stamenic was guilty of it but it relieved pressure allows us to get back into shape. I like the fact in one instance in that second half we had thee players quite tightly together across the opposition penalty box with a possibility to press the goalie but to a man we held our ground didn't leave those gaps which teams have played through us time and time again.

In that second half Oxford press an extra man forward holding trying to hold the fullback Tymon infield to give the winger more time and space to attack the flanks as we have seen in the past running at Tymon, we dealt with that situation much better even resorting to 5 at the back to negate that threat but we still kept an attacking threat.

Were Oxford poor or did we just make them look poor as we did West Brom in the first half , the difference yesterday was we kept our shape, altered it to reduce the threat Oxford posed while remaining competitive in all areas of the pitch , it wasn't pretty at times again teams resorted to kill any momentum we tried to build with cynical fouls but ultimately paid the price because we forced those fouls further up the pitch, nice to see our goals coming from set pieces in which we had become ineffective both in attack and defence under the previous highly rate set piece coach.

Only one game but the crowd appreciated the better performance and obviously happy with the deserved three points.

🔴 Four in at the Swans on the touchline
at 17:20 27 Nov 2025

Thought the three at the back with Casey in the middle worked because of his reading of the game, his pace which Canango can achieve but Casey's seems a lot more mobile whilst also tales very few chances, is he inexperienced oobviously but it allows us to play both Key and Tymon as wingbacks, mo need for wingers who are struggling, do you go with the two attacking and two defending midfielders and the loan striker very much like Martin's team set up but that shape must be adaptable during games. Inoussa and Widell in behind the centre forward worked a treat against Man City until we dropped too far loosing any threat up top which at any level you just cannot do.
As for Vipotnik or Idah two very different skill sets you could ask the question would they compliment each other 4-4-2?
One thing I thought we were reluctant to do against Derby was as they high pressed us we didn't try the early ball in behind their defensive line maybe under instructions to keep the ball on the floor,
We shall see how and if the coaching staff can get a tune out of the team because the turmoil at the club is evident and the supporters are drifting away.
