Indeed Bazz. I'd much prefer that we continue to try and build a squad over the next few seasons, not only to gain promotion but as a foundation for surviving in the PL. I don't think we would survive, but it would be good to at least give a good account of ourselves.
That said, I don't particularly want promotion other than to put a decent whack of money in the coffers.
The small advantages I can see are stretching the oppo's vertical shape and giving a better chance of retaining the ball than going long from the keeper.
The risks seem greater than the minor rewards though. It does feel like it's only a matter of time before it goes wrong, particularly with Nardi's nervousness with the ball at his feet.
To rest Burrell on Saturday would be a brave decision but it would help Kone as he'd move into the lead striker role. In doing so he'd play in the prime spaces Burrell has been occupying, and I really want to see Kone break his goal drought.
To coin the phrase, we should get something out of this game. Brum have a crap away record this season. We're getting up a head of steam. The team selection will be very interesting given question marks over 4 or 5 positions.
1-1 but I think I will feel a bit disappointed with that.
If Norrington Davies can't play on Tuesday (as per WLS as few days ago) and Field is out until Saturday at the earliest, who's the LB v Brum?
JCS has played LB but he himself may well be rested. Mbengue was tried there earlier in the season, but not to great effect. So it may have to be Esquerdinha, although he hasn't been in contention lately.
Good points about Madsen, who I also thought played well. To my eyes, he's playing further back this season as a deep-lying playmaker and is clearly the one expected to start passages of play. I think it's a role he's growing into, and doing so pretty well.
It might have been me but I found much of the game unusually flat, even though both sides seemed to work hard. WBA were rather ordinary but at least we were able to make things happen, and in the end deserved the win.
I'm pleased Kone played well and that his contribution has been acknowledged. He still needs a goal though. I can't think he's content to play provider for Burrell.
Burrell's continuing scoring streak is remarkable. Can he continue and perhaps even improve? We'll want to think so and I don't see why not. A little better ball control would reap further rewards for the lad.
Cider, at the game we were comparing Burrell to Clive Allen. Burrell isn't at Allen's level but he has the same striker's instinct for being in the right place at the right time.
